Hi everyone,

I don't know if any of you remember but I posted a while ago about getting another CKCS - we already have one, Harvey who is 16 months old, male, neutered and adorable in every possible way....................well, at Christmas I got a blank cheque off my husband for the new dog so I have been in touch with Harveys breeder to ask if she has any litters planned for 2007 and to put my name down for a black and tan boy and guess what??? SHE HAS ONE NOW!!!! She has two black and tan males from her last litter but couldn't decide which one she wanted to keep, she made her decision just before Christmas but wouldn't let this little one go then for obvious reasons so he is available and GORGEOUS!!! We have been to look at him today and he is a little darling but the only worry I have is his age - he's 14 weeks old now and I'm worried that he might be a little old to introduce to Harvey and to socialise.........I am asking for your advice and honest opinions on this one. He is fully vaccinated and ready to go out into the big wide world so I can take him straight out for lots of socialisation but I'm not sure if its a little late?? If we do get him we will be picking him up on Tuesday.

If anyone would like to see a picture of him then please pm me.

Thankyou

Hayley

As long as he's used to other dogs generally he should be ok - he's a Cavalier after all, and you don't get many with big problems in our breed. :-)

Isn't the fact he has been with his brother and mother a head start anyhow?  I really dont know that is just an observation.

My Rufus, also a Cavalier, was 14 weeks old when I got him, for the  same reason -the breeder had run him on. You couldn't wish for a better dog. (Well okay if he had the heart of a healthy breed, that would be better...) and introducing him to my other dogs or anything was never a problem.  A 14 week old Malinois (using my own breed as an example) would have needed a LOT of serious socialisation and training from the breeder to be able to settle easily at 14 weeks (and indeed my last pup went at 14 weeks, I did a lot of work with him and his owner is very pleased with him and she has two other dogs) -but a Cavalier is so happy go lucky and easy to train they will usually just accept anything and love it. :)

Not a problem at all, he is already socialised with dogs and pups, he has not been a lone pup, watch out Harvey you are going to have a full on playmate, he will attache himself to Harvey very quickly, just make sure that Harvey gets his alone time puppies play quite roughly and he has been playing with another pup up until now so will automatically play the same with Harvey to start with, so have a tug rope ready to keep him off Harvey's ears, I'm sure he will not enjoy being dragged around especially as he is not used to pups.

Lucky you! They will be so lovely together in a couple of weeks. :-) Cav's love company it will be the making of them both.

How exciting you're just about to go pick up the new baby! I'm sure Harvey and he will be the best of buddies.
