Misty is almost 11 months old and obviously I know that it is about this age that she would have a season.  I noticed a couple of days ago a few red spots on the carpet where she had been sitting for a while and having looked over her, confirmed that she is.

Sorry if I am now going to start sounding really stupid but is this classed as her first day or would there have been other signs in the days before that i should have noticed. Her mood hasn't changed at all and is still as loopy as ever :D. She is cleaning herself really well.  I know that  I have to be extra careful with her now when out in the garden (live near quite a few dogs) and keep her on a lead if we go walking. I have to admit I was expecting a lot more discharge and it to be heavier or is this still to come? and a season could last up to 28 days??  Is there anything else I should watch out for?  We plan on getting her speyed between this and the next season.

sorry again for all the questions :rolleyes: :)

Count the first day as the first day you saw blood, and keep her away from all other dogs for at least 21 days. After that time, if she looks as though she's over it (her vulva will have shrunk back from its massive 12-day(ish) size, but never back to its previous pre-pubescent size) and there is no discharge at all, blood-stained, straw-coloured or clear) then give her a good bath and wash all her bedding to remove any trace of scent. Then get her spayed three months after that. :)

During her season expect the discharge to get heavier (although it might not) and never let her out of doors unattended, even in your own garden.

I would be wary of walking her to be honest

My Ellie never changes her mood or has false pregnancies or anything, and she keeps herself pretty clean too, I guess it's just an individual thing. I would agree with lel though, if you can keep her occupied without her starting to climb the walls, I would walk her as little as possible to be safe. :-)

To be honest, I have been too wary to take her out for the past two days as the estate has been unusually busy with other dogs and people.  This normally wouldn't be a problem but my OH has been Christmas duty so is away which means I would have our 4 young children with me so too much of a handful.  I did manage a quick walk this evening because my SIL came round to babysit (and the bad weather has put people off going out so never saw anyone).  Misty is quite content if she doesn't go for a walk or run so will see how she goes.

she has been a little quieter today which isn't normal for her (or a GR generally come to think of it!!! :D :D) and is as we speak in her bed.  We are only seeing her for a few mins at a time to plonk her head on our laps and give us *the eyes* of "I am feeling sorry for myself so need some pampering"!! LOL

Good idea to keep her away from other dogs at the moment
i count the first signs as day one But ! it does get worse as
the season comes along (my house looks like the chain saw
masacre :rolleyes::rolleyes: when one of mine is well in )

good idea to watch the the changes and make a note of the days
for future referance (sp)

Happy cleaning :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Hi.  Its 21 days today that Misty came in and I did notice yesterday that she wasn't licking herself quite as much and having looked her over there was no discharge but thought I would check again today to make sure.

Can I think that it is now safe to take her out and about again?    She has been really good with not going on walks although I think it is starting to get to her now. :)

I would keep her on lead only walks for at least another week avoiding places where dogs are likely off lead.

I'd also give her a bath and wash all her bedding to remove any lingering traces of 'perfume'!
