Is anyone interested in a lift to Championship Shows on Toy Day 2007.  Manchester,WELKS,Birmingham National,Southern Counties,Blackpool,Windsor,East of England,Leeds,Welsh Kennel Club,City of Birmingham,Richmond,Driffield.

I live ten miles due South of Manchester.  Either drive to my home and leave car on the drive or could pick up from Knutsford-Sandbach-Crewe-Stafford Services on M6-for the shows going South.

I have an Estate car and I take two dogs and a small set of wheels-so plenty of room.

Share petrol costs 50-50.

pm if interested.

Would be if you were picking up from Bristol :D  We are often on the same day as Toys.  Sure someone will be happy to share the journey and the petrol.

Perhaps this calls for a new section on the forum?
Transport to dogs shows/Car shares?
- By echo [gb] Date 28.12.06 09:26 UTC
Hi Barbara

I now have a fully road legal son at home who will take me to the 'up country shows'.  As soon as my house is sold I will be buying a good vehicle for transporting the dogs, only the TT's so plenty of spare room, and I will keep you posted.  Bristol is always going to be a passing point for us coming from Cornwall.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 28.12.06 16:24 UTC
I have from time to time asked about lifts to shows, but even when people drive they often would prefer to car share for some journeys.
- By ClaireyS Date 28.12.06 16:33 UTC
Im always up for car sharing on long journeys, just to save money !!!!  I do have a friend locally who has a van all caged out now who im hoping to travel with but im not sure how we will fit them all in though !!  But if anyone wants a lift from the south (hampshire/berkshire borders) do give me a shout.
- By Boxacrazy [in] Date 28.12.06 16:54 UTC
I've car shared with various friends - my only problem was once when we
car shared with a friend of a friend...unfortunately her dogs (same breed) were car
protective and taught my then puppy that it was 'fun' to go ballistic
at anyone/thing that walked past the car :rolleyes:
So hence forth she's always done it (never been able to figure out how to stop her)
and she's taught her house/car mates the annoying habit :(

But I agree it's nice to car share especially if you are normally travelling on your own,
it's just nice to be able to celebrate/comiserate on the way home or chat about anything
which certainly makes the journey seem shorter! :)

I car share with a friend if we both judge at Obedience shows & when I judge on my own I usually have my steward for company. As the only map reader I now have a Tom Tom 910 Go so I can enjoy the trip ! Haven't really got the room to take other dogs unles they are small, but I have plans for when I retire for a motorhome with rom for several more dog :D My dogs are good travellers & usually very well behaved in transit ! except for the snoring !!!!!
- By Boxacrazy [in] Date 28.12.06 17:38 UTC
LOL yes I have one very well practised in the art of snoring :D
Although I wouldn't trust her with all dogs now she's a cantankerous
old lady now (well old for a Boxer, she'll be 9yo this May) with bad eyesight in one
eye due to old trauma. I tend to leave her home as she's the old bat that's taught her
companions the car protection racket  :D

I got a sat nav for Christmas - got the Navman N20 :) Had it early though
as it was on special offer at Costco before Christmas. Got £110 off the normal retail price.
Can't wait to try her out properly - :D tried it once on a journey to Malvern and wondered why it
was 50 miles behind me...it was on demo mode  erm now I'm learning how to use it properly
I hopefully will be ok :D ;)

You'll be surprised at the amount of stuff I take - it's only normally me and 2 Boxers in an Astra estate.
But the back seat is normally full with show stuff n cages...hmm  must learn how to travel light for a show.
- By Lopear [gb] Date 28.12.06 18:55 UTC
I'd love to be able to Car share....I live on the Isle of Wight, it costs a fortune on the ferry!!! That's before I've filled the car with diesel and paid entry fees. I'm fairly new to the showing lark but would dearly love to be able to afford to get to more shows.
- By ClaireyS Date 28.12.06 18:56 UTC
what breed do you have ?
- By Lopear [gb] Date 28.12.06 18:57 UTC
CKCS
- By ClaireyS Date 28.12.06 19:06 UTC
thats a shame, its rare we share a day with toys, in fact we dont often share days with anything !.  Let me know if you are ever the same day as gundogs and im happy to share (unfortunately not ferry fares though :(  )
- By Lopear [gb] Date 28.12.06 19:10 UTC
Thanks for the offer anyway! I take it you don't live on the Island then?
- By ClaireyS Date 28.12.06 19:13 UTC
no im in Basingstoke, so not too far from the port which could still mean petrol sharing would be worth while for shows up north.
- By Lopear [gb] Date 28.12.06 19:34 UTC
Thanks again!
- By hebeboots [gb] Date 28.12.06 20:08 UTC
Hey I'm on the Island too! My problem is as well as the ferry fair, not having the confidence to drive on the mainland!! Scaredy cat! For some of the shows I get a lift from a friend in Southsea (maybe room for you too?)
- By mygirl [gb] Date 28.12.06 20:32 UTC
I'm on Anglesey i come out at junc 11a hilton park services if travelling south or if north where the M56 meets the M6 if anyone ever needs a lift..Transit van secure caged back doors although you would have to provide your own crate to be kept seperate from mine. (Shes not nasty just big :D and may accidentally stand on a something smaller).. :D I only take the one now so loads of room...

ps. we are working breed..
- By pavlova [gb] Date 28.12.06 20:56 UTC
Wish you loved oop nawf Mygirl I,d love to have a lift and we share the same day (pastoral)
- By kizzycav [gb] Date 29.12.06 15:14 UTC
HI. If there is a show with workingand toys on the same day I will contact you. Irene
- By ClaireyS Date 29.12.06 01:32 UTC
you should get in touch with lopear then - both on the isle of wight and both on the same day
- By Lopear [gb] Date 29.12.06 10:28 UTC
Hi Lindsey

I think I have seen you at Ringcraft with your IMMACULATE Bichon!! I am going to start going again in the new year, so if you are going, I might see you there. I agree about the "Billy no mates" thing, as I am quite shy and find it very difficult to go on my own. My friend that I used to go with, has moved off the Island, so I am back to going on my own.
As you also have a Toy breed it could work very well us car sharing, don't you think?
- By hebeboots [gb] Date 29.12.06 13:34 UTC
Hi Lopear - he's not immaculate now! Little ratbag went out and 'danced in the rain' then did a flying splat in the mud - he's really only white for the bare minimum of time :D Yes think we should definately hook up, will start going back to ringcraft in new year so see you there! I'll be the one constantly tripping over the bichon or outside having 'some fresh air' *cough cough* :D :D
- By Dogz Date 29.12.06 10:44 UTC
You should see the prices we have to pay from Guernsey!
Karen:rolleyes:
- By hebeboots [gb] Date 29.12.06 13:36 UTC
Polo, how dear are the prices for you? Quite often its been said we could probably go to spain for a holiday for less than it costs to cross the solent!
- By ClaireyS Date 29.12.06 13:41 UTC
per mile I think the solent works out the most expensive stretch of water in the world
- By Dogz Date 29.12.06 15:46 UTC
Get this 2 adults 1 child, car(with dog) cabin one way, coz it's overnight outbound.
£354.....  The cabin does add £73.00
We will fill with diesel here as it's cheaper and a tank keeps us going for miles.
Karen
- By ClaireyS Date 29.12.06 17:44 UTC
Thats an expensive show !!
- By hebeboots [gb] Date 29.12.06 18:49 UTC
Ouch! I think I'd have to row! :D :D
- By bishop [gb] Date 29.12.06 19:04 UTC
we moved from Guernsey for that very reason, mostly we chartered small planes but usually [ because of weather conditions and different dogs needing to be there different days ] the trip usualy ment 4 days! i always said that one dog to show at Crufts used to set me back the best of £400! this was over 15 years ago! much easier now living between builth and Malvern and only a couple of hours to the NEC!
i do miss the sea though!
Pauline
- By Dogz Date 29.12.06 19:35 UTC
LOL.. I did row and good distances too, but that was years ago...and only for competition with a girls crew!
We did charter a plane to collect our 'Jack' everyone was a bit surprised but it was about the same cost wise as a boat trip and an over night stay.
We are doing Crufts and it will be loadsa money. SO it may just be a 'one off' thing.
So Bishop if you want anything Guernsey bringing over do let me know!

I used to live on the Isle of Wight (until autumn '97) and used to often car share with others. I now live a short distance from Southampton at Chandlers Ford. I'd be happy to give anyone a lift if their breed is the same day as hounds.

Pam
- By Lopear [gb] Date 29.12.06 22:19 UTC
Thanks Pam, for your very kind offer.
- By hebeboots [gb] Date 29.12.06 22:29 UTC
Second that, thanks Pam. I think I remember you now - sure you judged when I was showing an afghan at an exempt show a few years ago - and we got 1st - thanks! :D
- By abraham [gb] Date 30.12.06 16:31 UTC
