Would like a few ideas please.
I was contacted by someone who shows and breeds a certain type of Large dog. Illness is forcing them to rehome 3 bitches and 1 dog and what seems to be two litters of pups. One set currently 7 weeks and the other currently 6 weeks Breed rescue cant take them as they are understandably full right now . Our local rescue centre cant take them due to the type of dog and we are trying to get our centre in England to take them. If not what would you suggest for ideas. The situation is not yet dire but because of the nature of the illness it can become so quite quickly.

Thanks very much....PM me if you can help and need the Breed to be given.

Thanks
Julie

Hi Julie,
I am the rescue rep for my breed and we are lucky in that, usually anything that comes into rescue comes into my house while it is assessed and vet checked.

If this is not possible though, we would use the money we have in the rescue fund to keep the dogs in kennels.....

Can this not be done? I understand it is a big expense but if your breed is well known enough, I would have thought that you would have money in your rescue fund put away for any emergencies and also some kennels will help you out with a set price with it being rescue dogs.

I hope you manage to sort it out,
Gabrielle x

It might also be worth getting in touch with owners who have bought dogs from this breeder in the past - they might have thought about having another dog from this breeder and be willing to bring their plans forward due to the circumstances. Do the pups already have future homes so only need temporary fostering or are they not yet promised to future owners?

Just had a thought as well :) If she has the dogs insured she may find that they will pay for the dogs to be kennelled if the owner is too ill to look after the dogs :)

have you thought about assistance dogs ie Guide dogs, Hearing dogs, dogs for the disabled or evening Police, Armed Forces or Customs depending on the breed?

What about the Kennel Club helpline thingy that they've advertised in the dog papers?
They may be able to provide ideas...

Failing that whereabouts are they?
Perhaps as they do in the US people may be willing to transport and do transports legs to get dogs from
one part of country to another if there are other breed rescue's/rescue centres that can help home them?

In our breed we have quite a few websites that also have private homings pages where dogs are offered rather
than going through breed rescue. But obviously if the owner of these dogs is poorly it may be better for a breed rescue
to be involved as they can home check & vet prospective owners.

I'll PM you

The dogs are in Northern Ireland and as far as I know the pups have not been promised yet. There were more but one or two have been homed.  As far as I know there is only one resuce mentioned in the KC rescue pages.

Still not heard from the big boss yet but may still do at the start of the week so we will see.

We are hoping he will agree to take them to one of our centres in England...but if not may still need help with them.

Thanks for the answers so far.
Cheers
Julie

I found this list of general rescues in Ireland. There may be someone there who could help.

Have you tried some of the other breed rescues that bring dogs over from NI. Like this one. Good luck with your rescue efforts.

Also if you go onto the forums on the address Jeangenie has given there are ALOT of rescuers and centres on there, and if they cant help they should be able to find someone who can. They are all very helpful.
HTH
