Lots of puppies are reared in non-child households. It's up to the new owner to do the training - of both puppy and children! ;)

children already puppy trained thank goodness just a few reminders when they are excited I just worried that it may be to much for a puppy who has never been around children to end up in our house :)

Take the children with you when you choose the puppy and see how the puppy reacts. Even if a litter has been reared with children, they won't be used to all children; all children are different! Choose a puppy that takes new experiences more in its stride. Then you'd just need to use your commonsense and keep the children calm around the puppy for a few weeks till it's settled in, and all should be well. :)

Has the breeder already met your children and the children met the pups/older dogs?  I won't agree to let a puppy go until I've met ALL the family. :)  Then I would hope that the family will trust me to chose the right puppy for them, rather than the one who 'appears to be right' in the small snapshot of time that you see the litter.  The one who seems to be quiet when prospective owners visit can be the hooligan who now needs to recharge his batteries!  Similarly the mad one can be having their only mad 5 minutes of the day and usually be very calm and placid. :)

its great that you want to be prepared but we all make mistakes somewhere along the line when we havnt done it before, I was as prepared as I thought possible but definitely made a few mistakes, not the end of the world though.  what sort of dog are you after?
