Hiya

I fed my 9 month old puppy Charlie as usual at 5pm, about 10 mins later he was sick. thought not much of it as he sometimes eats too quick.  About 5 mins later he was sick again and i noticed something odd in it which i have worked out is rubber carpet underlay.  He has been constantly whining ever since and has been sick a total of three times.  he has now gone to lay down for a sleep.  Does anyone know if rubber underlay will harm him, i will starve him til tomorow and get him to have some water often, just wasnt sure if the material itself would harm him.  Any suggestions appreciated as he is very sorry for himself.

Many thanks in advance.

we have moved house recently and there is a roll of it waiting to be laid with carpet, the dogs arent allowed in the room its in but have managed to sneek in when a baby gate wasnt closed properly, looks like he has had quite a bit, but a lot came up with his tea.

With rubber I'd be more inclined to worry about blockages.  I'd keep a very close eyes on him if I were you.  I'd also do a quick search on what chemicals are in rubber underlay.

He seems to be bringing it up as his sick was fulll of it, and he now has been to the loo with diahorrea, but charlie has a delicate tummy anyway, so the slightest extra addition to his diet will upset him. He has gone to sleep now.  Iv done a search and can only find that it is often mad from recycled rubbertyres?

To stop you worrying about a blockage, I know this sounds disgusting but, could you piece the stuff he brought back up???
That way you would know how much, if any is left in him ???

i cant as its shredded into very small 1/2 cm pieces and he has shredded it off a tightly rolled up large piece.I thought that if he had a blockage he would not have diahorreah.  i will try him with some water in a minute to see if he keeps that down.  should i try him with a little food in perhaps an hour and see if he can keep that down do you think if he manages the water or just starve him til morning?

Thanks

Hi

So sorry that Charlie is poorly, I hope he is better soon. Mine swallowed a pair of latex gloves - whole  - when he was about 8 months old. I went into panic mode but a visit to the vets reassured me that the gloves werent toxic and because they were rubbery would pass through his system with no problems.Im pleased to say they were right although it was very odd seeing the fingers of gloves in his poo :D

As he has thrown a lot of it up and it was shredded into small pieces I would be more concerned about the toxins it contains more than I would a blockage - not that a blockage is out of the question - but that would be my way of thinking, but as with my experience a swift visit to the vets will at the very least put your mind at rest. In fact, I would call the vet now and ask if it is likely to be toxic or cause a blockage, Im sure your vet will be happy to advise you over the telephone.

Let us know how you get on.
