Hi
Can any one recommend abrand of socks that will keep my toe's from dropping off,  I've tried layers of socks I'am up to wearing 3 pairs at once:rolleyes:but I still come home from walking the Dog wondering if my toe's are still attached to my feet

Thank you

ooh tough call..
some say the synthetic (thinsulate type) others wool...
For me its wool all the way, more durable, wicks away sweat better, and stay warmer even if they get wet.
And only Lakeland (Herdwick) or Icelandic wool will do! :D
(stick an insulator sole in the bottom of your wellies/boots too..this really works :) )
HG *with toasty toes*
p.s I have been known to stick those hand warmer things down me boots too :D

Would thoroughly recommend SmartWool socks (can't remember the manufacturer but possibly Dupont?) - I bought them in Field and Trek. They are made from merino wool and are cool in the summer and warm in the winter. They aren't cheap at around £15 a pair but I bought them for a trek in the Sahara desert and was extremely sceptical that I was just being flogged a couple of expensive pairs of socks - wool in the desert?

But that saleswoman knew her stuff and they are brilliant - I had cool feet in temperatures exceeding 38C and now my feet are like toast on these cold damp foggy days. I was also one of only 3 people not to suffer from blisters on our trek so endorse them wholeheartedly. :)

I'm with you HG, wool socks with my insulated boots and my toes stay nice and toasty. I'm not quite at specific about where my wool comes from and really like alpaca best.

just bought my first pair of sealskin socks last week, tried them out for agility with my trainers on on a soaking wet grass field, my feet where bone dry and so warm, trainers where soaking wet after three hours of training will definately be getting a second pair and also some gloves.

I have the porelle dry socks too - just the same as sealskinz and I love them. My feet are always toasty warm and dry no matter what else I'm wearing on them and no matter the weather :)

I had this problem, I have to stand watching rugby for three hours every sunday and my toes always goes numb. I picked up so bed socks in materlan(sp) £2 for two pairs and they are the only thing that keeps my feet warm I have triesd some from outdoor shops but have to say they are the best.

Hi
Thanks for you're replie's, just bought some socks and got the best I could (as it's xmas and I wasn't brave enough to go into the city or a bigger town:eek:
Have Bridgedale Thermal liners Extra warmth & dryness, With Bridgedale Extreme series socks... have already put them to the test and so far
as snug as a bug in a rug
And would just like to say some of you where very lucky I had know idea where you lived, because I swear if I had I'd have mugged you for your socks
Thanks again

I can't recommend socks but I can recommend Neoprene lined boots.  Having been out since 8am searching for my missing (but now found!) spaniels, my toes are toasty whilst the rest of me is chilled to the core.
