Topic Dog Boards / Health / Worried possible liver problem

Hi all
Murphy my tibetan terrier hasn't been his normal self for a few weeks.  Last week he started drinking more than normal, he normally drinks two bowls a day, he is now having between 4 & 5.  He has also started weeing more, twice in the house. He also keeps shaking.  He has been eating normally.
I thought he may have a urine infection, after speaking to my sister whose a nurse, she thought it may be diabetes or cushings?(sorry don't know anything about that illness).

I took him to the vets last night, & took a wee sample with me.  This tested negative for diabetes.
He had a blood test last night, the results came back normal apart from the liver results.  I think the vet said the zinc level in a normal dog was 10, Murphy's was 21.
He is going back to the vets tomorrow for more blood tests.
In the meantime I am worried sick, the four children all realise something is wrong & I don't know what to do.
Does anyone have any knowledge of what could be wrong with him?
Any help gratefully appreciated.

So sorry about Murphy - unfortunately it looks as though you'll need to wait until your vet has carried out more tests and then has a better chance of a diagnosis.  There are so many ailments, diseases, even foods or meds etc that can affect all sort of test results that only a professional will have any real hope of how best to assess them :(

I know you must be really worried but please God you'll soon have a full report from your vet with the accurate picture of what's going on and why.  In the meantime, sending lots of positive thoughts and prayers your way plus gentle hugs for Murphy ;)

I wish I could be of more help - but I genuinely can't :(

Good luck, Teri xxx

Ask your vet to check for "Addisons Disease"   a disorder of the "Adrenal gland"  many of the symptons can be common to other ailments,  making it a last resort  diagnosis  ,  a normal blood test wont do,   your dog will need to go in for the day so they can do 3 blood tests over the day.  if diagnosed   with treatment a dog can live a normal life

My boy was tested for this in the summer after exhausting all other avenues.  gladly his came back negitive

Just to let you know, after a second blood test results came back normal! Vet believes he has a urine infection & is on a course of amoxicillyn. His drinking has now decreased & weeing is back to normal, although he is spending alot of time on his bed.
Thanks for your replies.
