Has anyone had one of these calls? The caller says that you have won a free nokia phone - the telephone number is really odd - 01301. My husband had one yesterday and I wondered why he kept talking. I had another one today. He says to keep them talking - that way they have less time to phone someone more vulnarable. Must say the line was so bad that I could barely make out what he was saying. I tried searching for this on-line to see if there was anything that can be done about them but couldn't find anything.
Just don't accept the phone. Once you do that they switch you to their contract and before you know it you're paying through the nose. What I've done before now with really persistent callers is to gently put the receiver on the side and go and make a cup of tea.

It's just not worth talking to these people :) I usually just end the conversation and put the phone down. Had a good one today tho' - the chap asked me if I had £5000 to spend would I spend it on new doors or windows - I told him neither - I would save the money. He obviously wasn't prepared for that :D
ive been getting funny calls from a number which is something like 10011, when you do 1471 and call it back it puts you through to America, everytime I answer it though there is no one there Hasnt happened for a while but it was happening a few times everyday.
Yes some of these people have American accents and talk to you as if you are their long lost friend! There must be something about the phones they are using that gives only a false number. We have tried to stop sales calls but these are scam calls trying to get information from you - they already have name, address and telephone no. They only need one poor sucker to believe them to make it worth their while - unfortunately older folk can be very vunarable (sp?). What this guy had against him was that he spoke with a strong Asian accent and the line was so fuzzy that it was really too difficult to understand most of what he said.
I know this is a bit sad, but when we had a double glazing and conservatory leaflet pushed through the door a few months back I shoved it beside the phone to throw out later.
Hubby then answers phone to someone saying we had won something or other and being really persistent. When the spiel finally ended and hubby was asked if he was interested he said "No, but have I got a deal for you".... and then launched into a sales pitch for the double glazing and conservatory, reading it all from the leaflet. Needless to say they couldn't get a word in edgeways and hung up.
The leaflet is now a permanent fixture in our home.

Personally, I never dial back any number that I don't recognise :) If someone really wants you, they will dial again :)
