Topic Dog Boards / General / electric shock from dog

in the last week or so I've been getting small shocks from my dog.  I can't work out if it is me or her that is electric and nobody else seems to have reported it.  Does anyone else have this problem and is it an indicator towards anything?  I generally don't get shocks from anything apart from faulty wiring and very occassionaly the car but this is plain weird!

Have you changed your shoes recently ?? Sometimes it can be the material used on the soles :)

it might be the slippers, I'll have to monitor it.  I've got new ones from next that have dogs that woof on them.  Tonight (since wearing slippers coincidently) I've been shocked on door, oven (which is gas!) and dog.  There was me thinking I was just hot!

i used to have this, but i was only when i wore a particular pair of slippers. Poor dogs and cats used to jump a mile when i'd stroke their nose

sorry I've posted the same thing twice unintentionally!

Yes I  occasionally get this from my dog too!

And something really odd but true, and probably nobody will believe me, he has recently found his voice and when he was barking last night  the Christmas tree lights flashed on and off in time to his barking  I told my OH who was a little sceptical until he did it again and saw it with his own eyes!   So what causes that?

Walking across carpeting that contains nylon fibres and the onset of cooler, dryer weather will build up static that is discharged when you touch something.  I know a gal who blew up her television due to this phenomenom.  Even though we have no carpets, only hardwood, this happens at our house too.  But only with the cats, not the dog.  They certainly do feel it and I take care not to touch their faces first when petting them.  Better yet is to discharge on something else first, hard to remember though.  A humidifier in your house might help somewhat but our house is mostly kept to the right humidity levels and it still happens.
