While out walking my Westie pup and Scottie both on lead we were attacked by a staffie that was gnashing at my dogs.  I asked the owner to get him, his feeble come here Rocky was laughable.  So I asked him to take him by the collar as he had no lead but he would not.  The snarling dog noises were loud, people came to watch from their windows but would the ignoramus get his dog, oh no.  I ended up shouting at him to get his bloody dog and was very tempted to whack him.  He eventually got his dog and his passing comment was phone the police and he gave me his address.  Is it worth making a complaint, is anything done with people like this or do we just have to put up it and hope that our dogs don't get hurt.

TBH, I don't think it's very likely he would give you his real address - particularly as you don't say your dogs were actually injured, i.e. suffered puncture wounds

Had your dogs been injured, even then I'd have said it was more likely he would give you his details so that you could send him any vet bills incurred - but I do think it highly unlikely that he'd suggest you report him or his dogs to the police! (not meant to sound as though I'm doubting your take on events - merely the other owner's integrity and/or motive)

regards, Teri

TBH yes it was the right address as I saw him come out of the house.  TBH I don't care if you doubt my integrity do as you wish, although answering the query is usually the most apt.

errrrm, have you actually read Teri's reply, tenacious? Because the only mention she makes of integrity relates to the owner of the staffie. Not you!

As for reporting the incident to the police, it sounds as if the staffie's owner was being sarcastic and since neither he nor his dogs come across as very sociable, I'd keep my distance from them if your dogs haven't actually been injured. And of course, you could also report him to your local dog warden if you consider his behaviour and control over his dog warrants this.

There's no point reporting the incident to the police because, although it was an unpleasant incident, no crime has been committed.

Thankyou for your replies.  Now that I am a bit calmer and having moaned to every one that will listen I can see that you are right I will walk a different way and avoid the moron like the plague.  Fortunately irksome dog owners are in the minority.

If you truely feel it warranted, report it to your dog warden.  You may find that they are aware of this person already, possibly have other compliants on file.

Your dogs were on lead, his wasn't - after having been in a similar circumstance (three attacks over a two week period) when I reported it to the local warden I was told that having your own dogs on lead at the time of the attack makes all the difference in the world legally.  I might be wrong or maybe my local dog warden was spinning tales but to have a dog off lead, in a public place and then being aggressive is a crime under the Dangerous Dogs Act - in my own particular case the other dogs owner was told that if it continued he would be prosecuted, he himself admited to the warden that my dogs were on leads so he would automatically be found guilty with at the very least a quite hefty fine.

Hi

If I was you and it was the real address I would phone the police - they may put it on file as information about that address.  Then if anything happens in the future to other dogs or children or anything it might help to have a bit of history on the file.

And for what its worth I think Teri did reply to the original post and perhaps now you've calmed down maybe try reading it again ...
you might feel better...
