this question is for a friend so please can youhelp they have a very experienced stud dog and is a well known dog in his breed and by all accounts is very good at his job, but yesterday he was mating the bitch and blew up fully but the bitch did not tie him and he came out fully blown and it has happened again today with the same bitch, please caould you tell her what is going on as the owners of the bitch are now very worried
is it just to do with the female or both of them? and also why does it happen?

Maybe the bitch is a little early, maybe not.  It's up to the stud dog owner to handle and control the situation.  I have had pups from exactly such matings, due to the excellent and experience of the stud dog owner. :)

I agree with Val, an experienced stud dog handler should be able to cope with this. When assisting at a mating I clamp onto the stud dog & bitch as soon as he enters her. I stay there for a few mins, holding them together and checking with my hand underneath until I am sure they are tied before I can relax and make them comfortable. Even then I stay at the back end just to make sure the dog doesn't try to pull away too soon.

thanks for your reply to both of you, the mating took place properly this morning even though they did not tie but they are very good stud dog handlers i think it was just unexpected last night and once he had blown then that was that he couldn't do it again the same night, and i don't supose it is that easy when the bitch weighs 12 stone and the dog 14 i can't imagine it was that easy to keep it in but they did it!!!
