Topic Other Boards / Foo / Your sizzling Hot Tips to Glam up for Xmas .....
- By Teri Date 13.12.06 15:12 UTC
What are your fave products, pampering rituals etc to glam up for the party season?

Are they just lashings more of your all year round must-haves or do you pull out all the stops to unveil a Christmas Cracker :)

Teri

Mmm I must admit I do the same routine what ever time of year but use more moisturiser in winter instead of sun cream :)

I use Loreal products mostly for my face and then Vaseline moisturiser or cocoa butter for my body :)

I use intensive heel moisturiser for my feet :)

The one thing I try and do all year round why I think is vital is drink as much water as you can without being permenantly sat on the loo :D

I every so often go for a professional manicure and pedicure as well :)

How about you then ? :)

I pretty much have the same routine and products all year round too - so was looking for something outrageously decadent to point the OH towards :D

For my face, neck, etc I use Liz Earle's Cleane & Polish, Toner & Light Moisturiser every morning and boost this through the summer or wintry weather with Decleor aromessence essential oils.   At night I use Elemis Active Skin Complex under moisturiser plus Gatineau's Eye Serum and Firming Throat Gel.  They're all "must have's" (believe me  )

I like Liz Earle's body products too but generally only use them around 2-3 times a week unless during the summer ... then it's Yikes, I have dry arms / legs!!!!!!!   I get lazy I guess - or distracted :P

I really, REALLY, REALLY ought to follow your lead and drink more water :(  I'm a caffeine addict and have around 25-30 mugs of it a day (i know, I know, BAAAAAD :( )
- By LJS Date 13.12.06 16:06 UTC
How many cups :eek::eek: Teri you must be boucing off the walls :D :D

I think Clinique stuff is very good and do love their perfume 'Happy' :D
- By Teri Date 13.12.06 16:21 UTC
Not cups - that's mugs :D

Me  bouncing of walls  doesn't everyone :D
- By LJS Date 13.12.06 16:23 UTC
You probably don't feel much with the padded walls   :D :D

I used to drink alot of coffee then went cold turkey and I felt so much better  It took a few days but was well worth it ;)
- By Teri Date 13.12.06 16:25 UTC
I was off it a few years back for about 4 months and TBH the difference was amazing - somehow got hooked again by the occasional "pick-me-up" and before I knew it back to square one (heavily padded :D )
- By ali-t [gb] Date 13.12.06 20:22 UTC
Teri - you appear to stock the full QVC beauty range   My best tip for winter glam is glitter eyeliners - tony and tina or urban decay are my faves
- By Teri Date 13.12.06 23:43 UTC
Hi Ali - will have to look into the eyeliners :) :) :)   It's been ages since I changed my make-up range (don't wear much and not often anyway)

I feel as though I'm looking a bit jaded (certainly feeling that way) so something a little bit different and totally selfish may well perk me up :D  May not have more physical appeal but an inner feel-good-factor isn't too much to ask (I hope :P )

You're about right - I have pretty much worked my way through the entire QVC beauty catalogue (although I now buy direct from Liz Earle, definitely cheaper, and brought some Gatineau & Decleor stocks back from abroad ;) )

Any recommendations on lip products (treatments) and glosses?  I use Body Shop cocoa butter balm and Bourgois glosses but tend to still have dry lips   Did invest in a few Gayle Haymen lip lifts but they are so small (and pricey) and don't really last!  trouble is with drinking so much coffee, it's gotta be strong stuff or it's washed off almost immediately

Cheers, Teri :)

- By HuskyGal Date 14.12.06 00:07 UTC
this is THE product I swear by daily!!! stays put while I scream and shout at police officers all day long (being a 'gobby' instructor Lip Blams and glosses get a good ole road test on my smackers!!)
is YSL Baume Nourissant and it tastes devvvvvine!!! (like champagne and lychees :) ) it has the consistency of good old Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream (another classic!) but without the herbally smell/taste.
MAC Lip Gelee (5th one down) has a lovely light texture but deep pigment so you get the colour but not the claggy sticky tacky feel of other 'heavier' glosses.
If you want lip 'plumping' action conbined with a lip gloss the best one I've found is The Origins ones (sister company of Estee Lauder) they have a lovely minty fresh taste and make your lips tingle and go all 'bee stung' :) just right for under the miseltoe!! ;)
For evening all out *Glam* (how they look on your lips and how they look when you pull them out of your bag for a quick touch up) the Dior Addict glosses are fab!!!! and slightly heavier so last the evening.
Another 'chi-chi' one to pull out of your handbag is the YSL Pure shine I have it in the beige it goes with everything it glides on your lips and mine get very dry so its formula works great..and heck even if the formula was rubbish I'd still have it in my bag, coz it just looks sooooo Darling :) ;)

*urrrgh there you have it! My Achilles heel....Im shallow as shallow can be where it comes to make up!!*
- By Teri Date 14.12.06 00:11 UTC
Ooooh, being shallow has it's uses Liv :D :D :D

Great - now off to buy, buy, buy - well, hint, hint, hint more like  :P :D
- By HuskyGal Date 14.12.06 00:23 UTC
Oh definately hint for the YSL Baume nourissant!! (it looks orange in the tube, very like the Lizzie Arden 8hr cream, but, goes on clear) when Ive been out on the beach with the wulufs and Im all wind chapped and mouth like Gandi's flipflop..I smear this on overnight and wake up and all my chaps have gone :D
(thats chaps as in chapped lips...not Brad,Johnny,Jude and Gordon!!! :D ;) )
- By ShaynLola Date 14.12.06 08:01 UTC
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant....it's amazing stuff!!! Like a mini facelift every time and visibly brighter skin immediately   Some colleagues in work recently guessed my age at 5 years younger than I actually am (and they're not the type to try to be deliberately kind ) and I swear it's all down to the miracle of Dermalogica ;)
- By Teri Date 14.12.06 09:59 UTC

>Like a mini facelift every time

Gotta be on my "must-have's" list then ;)  I'm sooooo liking the sound of this one (if I use it 5 times a day will I end up with the wind tunnel look  )

Cheers, my dear :P
- By ShaynLola Date 15.12.06 20:43 UTC
Forgot to mention...

This is the cheapest place I've found to buy Dermalogica products.  They do other brands too.  Delivery is free for orders over £30 and usually very quick :)
- By Teri Date 16.12.06 00:00 UTC
Thanks :) :) :)  Saved to faves - for OH's indulgence (well, to indulge me of course!) :D

Sometimes, at xmas, I actually wear some proper shoes instead of boots covered in hoss muck and dog hair

But thats as far as it goes :D
- By Teri Date 13.12.06 15:50 UTC
LOL - I've been known to totter around in "proper shoes" then too :D :D :D  They don't stay on long mind ya!
- By LJS Date 13.12.06 16:12 UTC
Yes my heels very rarely get an outing  I have to be going somewhere very flat and also have to stay sober :D :D
- By Daisy [gb] Date 13.12.06 18:49 UTC

:rolleyes:what's wrong with having Newfie drool face pack and Yorkie pee pedicures??? RFLAO!!!
- By Ems Mum [gb] Date 13.12.06 21:25 UTC
Got to be spray tan or fake bake. Gives me a total lift & make me look slimmer. (black doesn't always work lol)
- By abbymum [gb] Date 13.12.06 22:05 UTC
Im such a shortie the only time I wear flats is to walk Skye and go to rugby the rest of the time its heels all the way. Im really bad I dont care that its winter but being cold is no excuse for ugly shoes when you go out. I love my sexy heels at least 4inches.
Lots of fake tan and if Im feeling really energetic I will put my extentions in.

You got too much time on your hands Girl!!! LOL
- By Teri Date 13.12.06 23:48 UTC
Good for you Mary - in times gone by I'd have been joining you :D  Only ever wore ultra high toeless shoes, hail, rain or shine!  Still buy them but they come out about a dozen times a year

Just reminded me about the fake tan - yep, got some of that lurking in a drawer so a bit of exfoliating, lashings of body cream and I'm ready to take the plunge :D

See, I knew there was help on hand here!
- By Missie Date 14.12.06 00:01 UTC
mmm.... well apart from swapping my jeans for a skirt, flat shoes for flat boots, and maybe a black top, and 2 coats of mascara instead of one, I don't look any different? :P :P

and HG, if you post ANY links of ANY kind, you won't be getting ANY leo cuddles in the new year!
- By Teri Date 14.12.06 00:13 UTC
Ah, but your GG - remember   Some of us have to work at it ;)

I know you're not impressed but heck you should see the improvement from 5 years ago   :D

- By Dawn-R Date 14.12.06 21:47 UTC
Ok guys on the subject of glam, can anybody recommend and glittery hairsprays, gels or waxes. I fancy twinkly hair for our works night out

Dawn R.
- By HuskyGal Date 14.12.06 22:37 UTC
Dawn,

You can buy the glitter hair sprays at Boots but to be honest they're very much like the old style 'hair Laquer' and make your hair like glued straw!!

Virgin Vie (if you have a shop near you) do some nice Goddess Hair sparkle sprays (which smell divine!)

If you dont want the laquer'd effect however Umberto Gianni does a lovely powder puff hair sparkle dust!! and it smells yummy!! the link is the box set with the gold and silver sparkle spray...but you can buy them seperately at Boots!
I put a little dab of the sparkle dust on my collar bone and shoulders too so you get a 2 in 1 product :)
- By HuskyGal Date 14.12.06 21:51 UTC

>I,ve only gone and bought a skirt havent I<

well Im relieved to announce I no longer look like Andy Warhol with a 60 a day habit!!! :D
My hairdresser was amazing!!! she has managed to get my hair back to normal the white turning yellow turning orange has gone!! :D
phew!!!!!!!!!

So can I state for the record anyone thinking they can dye their own hair at home...DONT!!!!!!

 Never again! :D
- By jennyrose79 [gb] Date 14.12.06 22:37 UTC
Ahhhh, sede I tried this.... went from a blonde to a brown (which was actually a nice flourescent pink colour after using 3 bottles of dye! fetching!) about 4 years agao.  I took my hairdresser about 3 goes to get it to a reasonable colour.  It was very unique.  Browns, pinks yellows, blondes all together.  Quite liked it but he said he could never reproduce it again!

I've never touched home dye again!
- By Annabella [gb] Date 15.12.06 18:16 UTC
Air brush tan,had one today another in a few days to top up,also hair extentions only off the market, they are great my hairdresser puts them in for £10,

Sheila
- By Teri Date 15.12.06 18:40 UTC
Don't think I can go the distance with the hair extensions - but good on ya Sheila!

I've got the fake tan working nicely towards a warmer glow (don't want too much) and daughter is on the YSL trail as I write :) :) :)  Just got to persuade OH to take up the slack with the other recommendations and I MAY even go to a party this year

(OK, probably wont but I'll look a dang sight healthier than this time last week - all about *feel good factor* :) )
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 15.12.06 18:48 UTC
Out tomorrow with the girls from the local office I'm in ......so its the dinner jacket suit - but no, don't wear the bow tie (can't look like a bunny girl at 60+ :D ).      Am going to try waxing the hair & seeing if I can achieve the Zoe Wanamaker look.....sort of ........ :D

Memo to self:   no dancing on table :D :D :D :D

Margot
- By Teri Date 15.12.06 18:53 UTC

>no dancing on table

You "Go" girl :D :D :D  If women weren't meant to dance on tables, the Powers That Be wouldn't have invented stillettos :P
- By Izzy bear [gb] Date 16.12.06 12:00 UTC
For sparkly lips go for Guarlain lip gloss - I use the white one and it is a clear gloss with multi coloured sparkly bits in it. It lasts for ages on your lips even when drinking plenty! I must admit I am addicted to it and use it all the time.:)
- By Dill [gb] Date 16.12.06 22:35 UTC
I bought a Glad Rag today :D :D

It's a long ethnic styled skirt (Rapp) panels of velvet and embroidered panels, dark green and gorgeous. Trying to find a top to go with.
That's about as Glad as my Rags get tho :) :)

I've got one pair of heels and that's it :) :)

I don't so much sizzle as fizz quietly :)
