So what did you do at your dog club's Christmas party? Could be a fun thread!

We had the usual games etc but also 2 competitions: best fancy dress and best trick. For fancy dress I had put my Papillon Bobby inside an envelope (a large padded one, and yes his head and feet did stick out!) addressed to Santa Claus, the North Pole -so he was a letter to Santa. :) Nah we didn't get placed for that.

We had been told the week before we had to teach our dogs a new trick, anything at all. Most people did shaking paws or rolling over and things like that. I decided to be different LOL. :D

So I walk in to the middle of the hall carrying Bobby, having Ripley the Malinois on a lead, and John my husband was carrying a ring covered with gold Christmas tinsel. Now dog training is the ONE place I am NOT shy at, so I announce to the entire hall (LOTS of people) "First off, may I introduce my glamorous assistance John!", to which John wags his hips and acts like he was a magician's female assistant. Then I continue "Let me now introduce Turbo-Bobby the wonder dog. Bobby is going to jump through a HOOP OF FIRE  , and then he is going to jump OVER this giant MAN EATING WOLF! "  (Pointing to Ripley.)  I then had Bobby jump through the hoop (held by John) and jump over Ripley, who was in a down stay (he may be a good jumper but 24 inches which is Ripley when standing is a bit much for Bobby LOL.)

Out of about 20 people and dogs taking part, we won. :)

Ooooh Well Done!

I like the fancy dress idea :)  It's our agility Christmas Party on Sunday and the dogs have to have a costume, I'm now abandoning my snowman idea for Gem and going in search of a giant jiffy bag :D :D

I wonder just how large jiffy bags go...do you think they do borzoi sized ones???

Well done :D Novel idea! We don't do things like that at ringcraft, just stuff lots of nice buffet food :D

I'm not surprised you won with such a stunning performance! Well done to you, the dogs and of course your "glamourous" assistant! :D

No chance of competing here, mind since me and Nipsy No-Pals don't go to dog club!

We had a fancy dress competition - Harley (GR) wore a white dress with paper angel wings and a silver halo and it was the first time he was an angel at training class :D

We had games like musical bumps and he was fairly quick with his sit so stayed in for quite a while. We were divided up into teams consisting of dogs from a mix of classes - two had to do a recall, next two had to do heel work, next 2 had to do a sit stay for a minute and the last two had to do a 2 minute down stay.

The hardest game was a recall one. First recall was done with owner standing other side of the hall with a scattering of treats in the middle of the floor. Ist recall the dog had to come to you without taking a treat on the way. He managed this and I was really proud of him. The second recall the dog had to eat a treat before coming to you - not surprisingly he managed that bit as well. Third recall was past the treats again but not touching them - failed miserably. :D

Also had a quiz to name 10 breeds from photos and then we had to go as had another engagement to go to. :)

ROFLOL - bless Harley - first time an Angel - a few bells ringing here!! :)

Well done to Harley for the first couple of recalls c'mon third time lucky - no way!!

Goldmali - what a night that sounded - well done for winning - I am surely not as good as ideas like that.

At our ringcraft we had  a couple of party games - including eat mince pie/drink apple juice and feed dog two sausages - dogs didn't like the cocktail sausages unless broken up (I KNOW BUT IT WASN'T JUST MINE - HONEST!!) and followed by relay with ball - no doggies except goldies! wanted to carry said ball - having said that our team won that part - but then the quiz - 23 questions on dogs - SADLY NOT SWOTS on our team - but we still came second by one point! :) :)  Some tough ?'s! = honest!

Loved it though - wish there was more party games for doggies they all had a ball!

Our party is Sunday. The best game is always sausage retrieves. We acutally had someone's dog bring a whole sausage back - once :-D Lots of games, sweeties for us and the dogs. I've been teaching Milo to choose cups based on colour for the party. I'm realistic; he's learned to differentiate between bright yellow and dark green but it looks cute enough.

Congratulations on winning! (are you sure Ripley wasn't influencing the judges in some way ;-)) It sounds like presentation was everything!

OH I like that!! Might try that myself next year!!

My first Collie would retrieve sausages and give them back whole. With the current lot, I'd be lucky to get my fingers back, never mind the sausage, you'd think I never fed 'em! :D

We had our party on Monday night.

After the serious bit - dog and puppy of the year competitions from the match winners through the year - we had games.

We played musical chairs, a Dog Idol competiton where the dogs had to perform a "trick" and were marked by a panel of 3 judges, then there was the sausage racing (fast recalls and eating of a sausage), a relay race and the fancy dress - which was won by an Irish Setter dressed as a raindeer with Santa sitting on his back.

We had ours last night. Had the sausage game (don't eat it on the recall - yeh right:eek:) Musical chairs, hurdle racing. Also fancy dress, in which we came 2nd out of about 25 so proud! - my handsome black GSD boy went as a highwayman, and boy did he look dashing

Our party is on Tuesday evening - we've got lots of finger food (human and doggy), a few games (like "hunt the sausage" and others I've yet to hear about), a raffle (human and doggy prizes) and a fancy dress competition.

I'm going as a Christmas tree - I'm wearing a green top decorated with tinsel, baubles etc.

Earl is going as the Angel - he's got a mans white t-shirt to wear, hemmed with tinsel and I've made him a (slightly slipped) halo from a coat hanger covered in tinsel (which fixed onto his collar).

Can't wait as this is mine and Earls first ever dog training club Christmas party.......

I'm beginning to feel attracted to this Dog Club business. Only nobody told me there were the added advantages of all this "hunting the sausage". I just thought you ended up with a more obedient dog y'see
;)

Not always :D

You all must have some really fun doggy friends.  All the people we know just look at us as though we're a bit odd when I start talking dogs.

I hope you all had and have a lot of fun at your doggy parties.

We've had one of ours, my Yankee George went as a 'punk cocker' with a black jumper with Gothic white cross, a bulldog collar with spikes, and temporary green hair gel making his topknot into spikes. He looked brilliant and I was rather sad not to be placed. But we had great fun anyway! :-)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 18.12.06 09:55 UTC
Ours is tonight, and will be a good one, and I am missing it as am on first week puppy watch and then also maternity watch.

Stay at home Christmas for me.  Supposed to be going to Dad's Christmas Eve, but if I do will only be for an hour or so.
