Well a dilemer. My dog has started to moult, just a bit. I am due to go to a show in 10 days time. Do I bath him and hope it doesn't make it worse or do I leave him, he is quite clean and hope that the hair doesn't come out more? I know it would be a disaster to show him with no coat, so I wont do that! :-)

If it were me I'd bath him now and get as much coat out as possible.  The quicker he gets rid of it, the quicker the new one will grow.  If he's not absolutely bald I'd be tempted to take him to the show anyway (unless you know the judge is a coat fanatic).  If not then maybe it'd be wise to miss this show and get the new coat growing in time for the next one :)  When judging, I don't worry too much about coat unless it becomes a deciding factor.  After all, what's under the coat is so much more important ;)

All down to personal preference really.

Better to show a clean bald dog than a dirty hairy one, only fair on the judge to present a clean dog for them to handle! Most judges look beyond the coat.

Assuming it is a BC you are showing.  I would not bath and strip it out if him now if he has only just started, it will take his undercoat out.

Day before the show, bath the white bits and then put on a pair of rubber gloves, take a hand towel and put it in really hot water, wring and rub it into his coat, you might need to do it couple of times, then groom as normal.

If you are at LKA I am there too with a BC.

No I am not at LKA his brother is though. Thanks everyone. I will let you all know how I get on, I am at Maidstone. He is a Chocolate tri border collie and it is my first show after a long time not doing any. Good Luck to all. :-)

Just thought I'd let you all know that he came 4th in yearling border collie. Not bad for his first proper show and mine. :-)

Thanks Debs. How did you do? Sadly Tytos brother didn't go to LKA as his owner was poorly. :-(
