Topic Other Boards / Foo / ICE in your Mobile Phone? you should have!!

ICE = In Case (of) Emergency

Ok, so Im paid for a living to be a litle bit pessimistic (and alot organised!)
But Im surprised when Im training that my 'Civvies' dont know about this (Thankfully, as it should be, the Officers all know)

I thought it was quite widely advertised after the 7/7 Bombings..
Sooo, if you dont know its what you put the person you want to be contacted should anything happen to you, under in your address book in your mobile phone!

Simple :)

- By Paula20380 [gb] Date 12.12.06 17:04 UTC

I have ICE, have had it since the July bombings in london.
- By Merlot [gb] Date 12.12.06 17:50 UTC
You cannot believe how handy this is when working in and A&E dept. We are always looking for contact No's and ICE is great to find, helps us out a huge amount so go and do it now.
- By ShaynLola Date 12.12.06 18:03 UTC
I have ICE in my phone too.  Hope they never have to use it to contact my Mum though...she carries a mobile but never answers it as she 'can't imagine who'd ever be trying to phone her'
- By jazzywoo Date 12.12.06 20:10 UTC
Didnt have a clue about this Liv, thanks I will add it now. :)
- By zarah Date 12.12.06 20:11 UTC
Never heard of it either  :D

Will add ICE now!
- By Lea Date 12.12.06 20:13 UTC
Just a question,
Do you still need it when you have 4 different numbers stored under the names Mum and Dad??????
Lea :)

What happens if someone has a PIN password on their phone?
- By Daisy [gb] Date 12.12.06 20:33 UTC
Nothing :D

Probably press the buttons a bit harder just incase they can get it to cooperate and/or magically bypass the pin :D
- By Annie ns Date 12.12.06 20:37 UTC
So it is pointless then unless you remove the PIN?  (Sorry if it is obvious, I'm no mobile whizz! :P)
- By Daisy [gb] Date 12.12.06 20:39 UTC
Yep :D (to it being pointless ...... :D )

- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 12.12.06 20:49 UTC
You just put ICE in front of name - ie I have ICE :HOME,  ICE:OFFICE,  ICE: NO1 SON, ICE: No2 son ....etc etc

Margot
- By HuskyGal Date 12.12.06 21:09 UTC
well...... its common sense then isnt it. If the Mobile idea doesnt work for you perhaps a card in your purse will be a better bet.
Remember it may not be worse case scenario, the testament here from a paramedic on East Anglia Ambulance Auth's website, shows its helpful when dealing with shocked/injured casualties who struggle to remember who to call... and the psycology of relatives/loved ones being informed quickly, which I can relate to having spent time a few weeks ago with the mother of one of our officers who was stabbed on duty.

i got ice as my son a fireman told me to do it
- By jackyjat [ru] Date 12.12.06 21:45 UTC
I don't have an ICE number as my phone won't let me store the same number twice.

However, I have prefixed my two ice numbers with aa so they show up at the top of my contacts list and have ICE after them both.  Will this do?
- By sandrah Date 12.12.06 22:05 UTC
You could edit the name of the person you want to nominate by puting ICE infront of their name.
- By Harley Date 12.12.06 22:34 UTC
Thanks for that HuskyGal - really useful information - have put it in my phone and will tell my offspring to do the same.
- By LindyLou [gb] Date 12.12.06 22:38 UTC
I've had this since July, and I told my kids about it then. They hadn't heard about it. I hope it's never needed, but you never know.
- By HuskyGal Date 12.12.06 23:08 UTC
Jackyjat,

In this instance if you type a * after the number (that is going to be your ICE number)
that will solve the problem of the double user ID (according to Vodaphone who helped pioneer this scheme)
does that work?
- By Missie Date 12.12.06 23:38 UTC
 ICE is my home number, I also have my home number listed under HOME. Now my old phone wouldn't let me do that, nor would it let me list the same name twice, but I can now and that can get me confused, can't it Teri?  ;)
- By Teri Date 12.12.06 23:57 UTC
Be fair Dee, One can never have too many mobiles ;)  (the staff - just gotta keep on top of them some how  )  Easier than lugging about a CCTV unit ....... :D
- By Missie Date 13.12.06 00:27 UTC
:D :D rofl

When you updating to picture phone, so I can inundate yr mobiles as well as yr email? ;)
- By Teri Date 13.12.06 00:29 UTC

>When you updating to picture phone

I'll check with my secretary and get back to you :D
- By Daisy [gb] Date 13.12.06 09:12 UTC
Wouldn't be much use me having ICE numbers as my mobile nattery is usually flat :D I only make about three calls a year on it :D :D Never could understand why people are so attached to their mobiles :D :D :D

>my mobile nattery is usually flat<

ROFL!!! :D
Stop 'nattering' so much then Daisy, and your 'nattery' wont be flat :D :D

oooh you just gave me visions of 'Beattie' then!! :D
remember from the old BT adverts with Maureen Lipman
*chuckles*
- By Daisy [gb] Date 13.12.06 18:56 UTC

I didn't know about ICE ah, the hazards of coming from a desert Thanks HG! I have a home entry but I'll ICE it down.
- By Harley Date 13.12.06 19:25 UTC
I have put 4 ICE entries in my phone now and just have the name of the person after the ICE entry as my phone won't let me put two entries in for the same number. i am going on the assumption that anyone who needs to access my phone in an emergency will see the name entered and then be able to find that name in my phone and thus get the number.

Four ICE names seemed excessive at first but then I realised that  3 of my contacts are often travelling in my car with me so in the unfortunate event of a RTA with us all involved they probably wouldn't be able to answer their phones anyway:eek:

So now I am thinking of some alternative people to call but 8 numbers not only seems but is excessive :D
- By Emz77 [gb] Date 13.12.06 19:54 UTC
I have 3 or 4 ice entries and have just put 1 2 3 or 4 after each so they can get them all in the right order ;-)  I have had this on my phone for about 3 years now as it was something we heard about whilst I was living in Belgium :-)
- By brak3n [gb] Date 14.12.06 19:23 UTC
First I've ever heard of it. ICE is in my phone now :)
