Topic Dog Boards / General / name for puppy

Any ideas on a name for a westie bitch puppy?  I like "different names" alreadyhave a Pearl, Midget and Cookie. The rest of the litter have typical names, Robbie, Hamish and Tess.
- By Beardy [gb] Date 11.12.06 18:56 UTC
What about 'Madge', it's different!
- By MariaC [gb] Date 11.12.06 19:28 UTC
Jemimah :)
- By salukipuppup [gb] Date 11.12.06 20:24 UTC
I like to think about where the dog originated, so for a borzoi I'd name it Nureyev or Valeska, for a shiba inu I'd call it Sakura or Akamaru... How about a celtic name like Niamh or Eilidh or Gelert (ok they are welsh and irish too)? I know someone who had a lovely westie called Flora... it really suited her. It depends on their personalities too.

Or Kodiak or Kenna
- By zarah Date 12.12.06 20:16 UTC
I think Jemimah would be great for a westie!

What about Florence or Gertrude (Gertie to her friends :D)
- By Teri Date 12.12.06 12:56 UTC
Scottish themed as in Kirsty or Mirren? Or are you looking for something as different as my lot :D
- By earl [fr] Date 12.12.06 13:50 UTC
Ceilidh (pronounced Kaylee)

My friend's dog is named ELKA and is the prettiest and best behaved dog I know :)
- By JaneG [gb] Date 12.12.06 17:21 UTC
Brainless - wasn't your old girl called Elka? It is a lovely name, but not sure if it's a westie name :)  What about Maisie or Molly?
- By MunsterSue [gb] Date 12.12.06 18:43 UTC
Molly is nice like chaumsong suggested. How about Lizzie, Lexie or Jess - all names from the Monarch of the Glen programme that used to be on TV:rolleyes:
- By ShaynLola Date 12.12.06 19:26 UTC
LOL...I;m sure Brainless has a Lexi too :)
- By LJS Date 12.12.06 20:20 UTC
If she is going to be a Christmas Westie pup then Holly is a lovely name  I have a good friend who has a 'Holly' Westie girl and she is a super dog :)

Curtis's sister is called Charm, it's a shortened version of her KC name Charmian.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 13.12.06 10:19 UTC
I have a Lexi, and had a Tula, and the other Barbelka inmates are Kizi and Jozi. :D
- By Brainless [gb] Date 13.12.06 10:19 UTC
Yep my foundation Elkhound bitch was Elka the Elkhound, and also I had a good friend called Elizabeth sometimes shortened to Elka in Poland.

If I get my bitch pup next week then she will be Nina after the daughter of the studs owner in finland.  she was the one who was my main guide and interpreter during my stay.
- By JaneG [gb] Date 13.12.06 14:46 UTC
Blimey Barbara, are the pups due next week already? Fingers crossed for lots gorgeous girls to choose from and a handsome boy too :)

What about your other bitch? Is she is whelp too?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 13.12.06 22:44 UTC
Yep the Mum is due on Tuesday so have whelping quarters set up and expect action any time from tomorrow (had first litter 5 days early and second 3 days).

Lexi is definitely pregnant, but looks like a gym slip Mum, so I reckon there won't be many pups, may be just 2 or 3, but it is a bitch and quality that count.

Based on previous size I reckon Jozi will have around 6, so shouldn't be too badly overrun with pups.

Can't believe it has came around that quickly Barbara. Good look and fingers crossed for a nice pink bundle. :-)

Yes, Teri, looking for something completely different,  my granddaughter likes chanel after the perfume, or Prada, i've already had a Porcha,  so thats out, someone also suggested Oyster, as her mums pet name name is Pearl. k.c. name will either be ******Pearl of the Sea, or ***** Sea Pearl, I was going to call her "Tara" after the caravan park LOL !!!! missing it already LOL!!!!even thinking of the street names at the park but I dont think Kintyre, or Beechgrove or Bayview would suit a puppy LOL !!!!
- By Teri Date 13.12.06 16:18 UTC

>after the caravan park LOL !!!! missing it already LOL!!!

You and me both :( :( :(  Somehow drying dogs covered in mud doesn't have the same feel good factor as brushing out sand   I'm gonna be a manic depressive by the time March comes :P

Our first girl was called "Porsche" too :)  We used to have a car theme for all of our dogs but then Africa broke the chain LOL.  Her kids were set to be after places but the arrival of the mini manic madam of course caused a re-think :D

On the places, OK, the park theme, how about "Ailsa" :)  I quite like that!

If you're looking for a Scottish name there's Scottish island names like Iona, Skye, Islay, Tiree...
- By waffy [gb] Date 13.12.06 11:46 UTC
I picture a little westie bitch called Rebel :)
- By Star [in] Date 13.12.06 11:50 UTC
I am also trying to think of a name. You helped on here to get her kennel name which is 'Gift of the Gab' Her Mum is called  'Chatline and pet name is Gaby so now trying to think of an appropriate name for the pup. I did try translating Gaby into German as she is a GSP but was too difficult to pronounce LOL
Any suggestions welcome?
Thanks again
- By marguerite [gb] Date 13.12.06 16:28 UTC
Waffy, this little girl is not a "rebel" Hamish the dog, now!, he is a rebel !!!!! LOL!!
- By salukipuppup [gb] Date 13.12.06 16:25 UTC
The island names are a good idea... My favourite is Jura... in fact I might use that if I ever get a bitch!
- By jas Date 13.12.06 18:22 UTC
I've got a Jura - but she is named after the whisky not the island! :D
- By jdp1962 [gb] Date 13.12.06 20:24 UTC
How about ! Morag Calie Fern Tully Macie Poppy Violet Ruthy or Shannon just some I could think of.....
