How do you keep your homes and cars smelling fresh instead of wet dog!!
This time of year i know is going to be worse, but my pup stinks at the mo.
I do bath him regularly and he is brushed every day, but he just has a 'smell' which i dislike.
Is there any special shampoos or products i should use when bathing him?
I just want him to smell nice...........not asking too much am I 

Well, some breeds definitely smell "doggier" than others and I'm afraid that I never quite conquered the "Eau de Cocker Spaniel" that Bob gave off. He was actually worse when bathed too regularly since he then went straight out to find something disgusting to roll in to get rid of the unfamiliarly nice smell of himself!

JRTs don't smell anywhere near as doggy being smooth coated but at this time of the year it's always going to be an uphill task to keep the house and car smelling anything like "fresh". Fortunately I'm a slatternly baggage so don't get overly stressed about it but I do avoid the worst of the outdoors being spread everywhere by towelling him down in the utility room when he comes in and (until he is dry and clean) restricting access to parts of the house I don't want covered in muddy sludge and JRT hair.

I have to say that I have those neutra air puffers in the lounge, hall, office and dining room. They puff out a shot of spray every 9,18 or 36 minuits (Depending on how you set them) and they do help keep the house smelling nice. The only trouble is it sounds like someone sneezing and it took the girls and OH a while to get used to the noise. They get noisier as they start to run out and they are not cheap but I like them. As for smelly pooches, well I find a clean ie. not over muddy fields?? walk in the pouring rain and a good rub down is as good as a bath to keep them smelling OK. I have three bernies and they dont smell to bad. Pepsi is the worst she has a greasier coat than the other two and nothing seems to alter it, diet or bathing have little effect. Some it seems are just made that way.

I think if you wanted a nice smelling house , car then a dog is not for you ! Bathing him regularily make in fact be making him smell worse as you will be stripping his natural oils away :)

The one thing that has improved my girls smell body and breath is feeding a raw diet :) It has made a real difference although this time of year there is always an underlying Eau de wet dog smell around :D

I wear Eau De Wet dog out at nights, the Pheramones in it are a real puller!!!

Like i said, i do understand this time of year will be worse and a dog IS for me..... would'nt be without him, but there is nothing wrong with me trying to keep my home fresh :rolleyes:

My last ckcs was a bitch and i just don't remember her smelling like this. I lost Maisy 6 months ago and she was with us for a good 7 years. Perhaps my sense of smell needs to be accustomed again !

Maybe you need to wash his legs and underneath down everynight ?  I do with my CKCS it's not a doggy smell but a pee smell on mine

I'm pleased to say, I have no doggy smells even when I have the full troop in, my secret is easy I always wash the dogs feet and underbelly after a winter walk just with water and then rub them down and leave them to sit on a towel for 20 mins in the conservatory to dry they then all come back into the house, no smell at all. :-D I long for the frosty mornings now though, when the earth is nice and hard and no more washing required.

Carrington i agree with you, those frosty mornings are the best in the world.
We have just got bak from a walk and i put him in the bath and hosed his legs and belly down and gave him a blast with the hairdryer (which he loves)
He is now stretched out on a towel in kitchen.
I will keep with the clean water and no shampoos and not do ALL of him.....perhaps thats where i went wrong.
I do treat him like a baby tho

Try putting some nice smelling human conditioner on his featherings and tummy, this helps with washing the mud off and will make him smell nice.   I find the herbal essence one has a very nice smell.

I always bath my dogs to keep the house smelling nice.  My friend never baths hers and the dog smell is dreadful when you walk in.  If you have carpets then a smelly dog will always transfer the smell to the carpets.

with 4 gundogs there is always 'eau d'wet pooch' in my house and car, its worse at the moment as my new house is carpetted, looking to change to laminate next year, i use a mixture of the glade puffers and the 3volution plug ins, i also have one of these and find these help a lot they also cut down on the dust, also as a quick fix in the car i use 1001 no vac spray, as the weather gets wetter i give up trying to make the car smell nice :)

In my breed when they are wet they smell like wet wool. I give them a brush and spay them with
BABY POWDER Fragrance Conditioning coat Cologne. It is for all breeds Long Lasting, smells just like Johnsons baby powder. I buy it from Superfine Ltd. because I use do much but your doggy groomers may have some. would not be with out it, I don't get a doggy smell in the house all car with all of them

I agree with Carrington ..Having 3 beardies with long coats and very furry tootsies I wash thier feet and undercarriage in a bowl after excercise with a good towel down (also good for getting rid of the pee smell on the backs of the legs) they can then walk around any part of the house without a doggy pong!
