I want to put my Xmas tree & decorations up this wknd but OH reckons it's still too early....what do you think is an acceptable time to put them up? Any of you already done it?

To early for me. Weekend before Christmas day is when I do our tree but I have to cajole OH to help me buy one before then as he thinks they shouldn't go up until Christmas Eve. That's too late for me as I like to decorate it in advance and put presents under as I wrap them.
My mum puts her tree up 1st December

and takes it down 12th night

Mine went up on the 1st, but then it comes down on the 31st December because I think that it's THIS year's Christmas not next! ;)

Assuming I can get into the loft by balancing on various things, as our loft ladder is currently not fitted, I'm of a mind to put mine up tonight. Far earlier than I normally do it, but I have the urge to decorate the tree while watching a silly Christmas film tonight, so there!
Now, what Mabel will make of it will be entertaining ... can see the refrain at ours being "Mabel nooooooooo" for the next few weeks. :D Don't think I'll put the chocolate decorations on yet, that will be a red rag to an always hungry puppy.
M.

I would maybe be thinking about putting mine up this weekend if a childs quad wasn't our main feature in our living room at the moment!!! OH's friend has bought it for his child for christmas and it seems to have pride of place as he has nowhere else to hide it. Grrrrrrr!!!!!!!
Alot of people I know have already put them up though. Must admit i'm not feeling very christmassy at all, think it must be because the sun is shining every day!! I need frosty mornings to feel like christmas is on the way!!!
At the end of the day though when you put them up is all down to personal preference....some people like to do it on the 1st December, some people like to wait until christmas eve....I usually settle for somewhere in between!!!!!;-)

Also it depends on the type of tree. I had an artificial tree in our old house because that's all that would fit but in this one I've always had a real in yer face, up to the ceiling, spreads itself out to reach you tree :P :D It would be wilted and pathetic looking by Christmas if it went up too early.

yes did ours Saturday - the kids love having the deccies up - well that's what I say anyway! :)

I think you should put them up whenever you want (forget OH!) :D A few houses we walk past have already had theirs up for a week at least. Another house we go past has xmas tree lights in an outside tree switched on every evening all year! We used to put them up a couple of weeks before xmas day as children but, with a very bouncy Dobermann who has to investigate everything, it's now more likely to be the day before xmas eve so it's ready just in time for the kids who are coming to visit :)

Hi
My tree will go uyp this weekend but i am worried how many times it will be up and down with a whippet pup that loves to chew plants and trees. When ever she goes in the garden she heads for the plant tubs. has them all ruined I can just imagine the delight on her face when she sees I have put a tree in the house for
her to play with

Least before I only had to worry about the GSDs wagging tail knocking everything of it.

We go and cut ours down this weekend.
I have one outside and one in. I did have 2 inside in my old house but think this one can only have one!!!!!
Then will put decorations up next Saturday after the trees have had time to dry off!!!
Lea :)

My tree and decorations always go up 2wks before Xmas, on my birthday. It's how we always did it when I was little and I have stuck with it as I think 2wks is about the right amount of time before Xmas so you feel Xmassy, but not so long you feel like it's been Xmas forever (which is the problem with shops selling Xmas stuff in August.... ) :)

You are right that is plenty long enough :) any longer and the magic gets too jaded, however, mine go up Christmas Eve, again a childhood tradition, and down for 12th night. When I was a little girl we would go to bed with not a bit of tinsel on show anywhere and rise in the morning to find it all :) My sisters and I would nearly burst our britches in excitement that Santa had come and done all that, not to mention wrap and lay presents for 4 little girls under the tree and pause long enough to eat a mince pie and drink a glass of sherry while we slept soundly :) Looking back, of course, I now know my parents were brilliant! :)

Hmmmm.. Im in 2 minds this year.
My christmas tree
beforeand
after!!
Im itching to put it up now but quite like Isabels way of doing it and think I might suggest a nice crimble eve decking of the halls :)

Can I just say HuskyGal- your tree looked beautiful before :-D The photo was very nice :-) I'm commenting on it because I wouldn't mind something similar to it myself to make Chritmas cards for previous puppy purchasers- I thought it would be a very nice idea- on the other hand though you've just confirmed in my mind that my tree wll end up the same way if I allow the pup (GSD now 10mth) anywhere near it :-o
So do I go for a picture perfect photo and repair the damage afterwards or do I buy nice cards instead  ...decisions....decisions.....decisions :-)

LOL HG, thanks for posting them :D Naughty Storm - and this year he has an accomplice too
Same here -- everything goes up in the 24th and stays until 12th night :).
Says I ....
.... having furtively bought tinsel today and hoping to get away with putting it up right now. My flat is so dark, I think it would help the general mood.
mine are up-put the tree up last weekend. Too early for me, but OH loves all things chrismassy, so 1st December is decoration day, here!

Mine went up last Saturday. I always put them up the first weekend of December as once the advent calendars are out I want to decorate the house, plus it takes me so long to put it all up I don't want to feel that as soon as I have finished it is time to take them down again. Having the tree lights on and lights from the garland helps to make me feel christmassy and it is lovely and cosy in the evenings. I have been singing "its beginning to look a lot like christmas" since I put them up!!!!
jane

Going to get ours tomorrow real one for us this year will put up on Sunday with all the outside lights [weather permitting]
Sheila.
For the first time in 3years i have put my tree up tonight now lucy nearly 3 years old i know it wouldnt bother her but was a bit worried about chas being a 7 month old pup so stuck the dogs in the creat in the livingroom i put the tree together put the lights on then let my girls (aged 12 and 7 ) get on with the rest of it tree looks a bit heavy one side but its ok and chas hasnt even bothered with it (yet)
I usually put mine up the weekend before christmas, so not up until next weekend :) I have a shelf that is 2' off the ground for the tree so no chance of Chance peeing up it :D Then, because my birthday is hogmanay, the decorations stay up until the weekend after new year :)

Is it a real tree? Probably too early then or it will be all dried out by Christmas and be a fire hazard. I live in the land of Christmas trees of course, (Canada) and we always get a real tree.

Iwont be putting our real tree :) up in the lounge or anything else up til towards the end of next week.

Our tree is going up as we speak. As usual having problems with the stand though
put ours up today and we had the usual thing- what happened to the wall decs?? oh dear we must have chucked them last year because they were so crap! now if i want some i have to buy some! its hard to remember what i did a year ago!

We
could have our own real tree this year :) The previous owners of our new house obviously decided a few years ago to plant their own supply:) The trouble is that no-one told them that, after the first couple of years, the remaining trees would be too tall to put indoors :D :D

Also, they are planted so close together we will have to chop most of them down for firewood soon :( :( :D :D :D
