Thinking hyperthetically,
I buy food to keep the weight off my dogs, A slow getting on rottie cross spayed bitch and a greedy neutered male Am cocker!!!!
If you got a dog that has been starved and desperatly needs to put weight on and get condition what would you feed it??? I would have no idea as always try to keep a dog trim not feed it up!!!!!
IO know we used to feed the setters green tripe with the complete to get the weight on them but know some people cant stomach it as I really dont think i can stomach green tripe now.

Minced tripe from AMP  (sold in Pets At Home amongst other places) or breast of lamb :)

Ha ha ha ha ha
yoou replied as I was editing!!!!!
Thats what I used to feed my dogs but they went off it. They actually staved for 7 days even though I put the food down every day, I realised afterwards that alot of people had had the same trouble at that time, they must have had a bad batch!!!!

Yes breast of lamb is a good food to put on weight as did this when first started feeding raw and realised I needed to reduce the intake slightly :D

It is also very cheap if you get a good butcher ;)

I get about ten full breasts for about a fiver

Last them ages

not sure about being starved, but when my boy lost all his muscles on his front end and his weight, I was using proplan biscuit mixed with tripe or lamb mince. Chicken wings and lamb breasts. It is a slow and steady process and gentle exercise to help build muscle back. Not sure if all those foods would be suitable for a dog that has been malnourished though

A good quality complete with a fat content of at least 16%.   Lots of inbetween snacks like sausages & burgers & biscuits.  I know of one person who was very successful putting weight on her GSP by giving him custard creams.  :D

I've had to add weight to Simba (the Golden from another thread) a few times as he easily turns into a skeleton. I find the easiest way is to feed 3 meals a day of whatever he usually gets.

Thanks everyone.
It looks like there is no right or wrong way of putting weight back on, and everyone has different views as always!!!! LOL
foood for thought as they say!!!!

I have put weight on my lanky GSD by feeding raw chicken wings & breast of lamb. It certainly works, the raw seems to suit him much better than the kibbled food. I am feeding a mix though, mainly because I don't want him to be fed raw when he goes into kennels next year.

She came home today and I have been and bought some frozen tripe from the pet shop @50pence a block. Is that good or should I look else where????
Lets see if she will eat now as she hasnt really eaten at the rescue :(

I get it at 26p a block now but that is buying it in bulk so it depends how much storage you have and how much you need??!!!! If I buy locally it is 52p a block so it sounds fairly average I think!!

Hope you get her eating.

I only want it to get her weight up so sounds like getting it at the pet shop is fine!!!
Get her eating it......................... ha ha ha ha ha
Mixed it in with the dry food and the whole dinner didnt touch the sides. She ate it quicker than my other two did theres and licked the bowl clean :D :D
Thanks Paula
