Hi

A local farmer on my route has just had a litter of pups from his GSD.
The dog looks a typical alsation but the bitch appears slightly different. He had her given to him to rehome some years ago. She seems to have some Labrador in here but the previous owner stated she was a pedigree "English" German Shepherd.

As i am no expert on these matters can anybody unravel this query.
If there is such a breed as a English GSD can you post a link to some pics.

The bitch has not got the distintive long nose and pointed ears. She has a shorter snout and her ears are not so pointed, more lab as the farmer describes.

The English lines tend to be heavier framed with shorter legs!  Can't find any links just now, but will keep looking.

If you schroll down to "Fenton of Kentwood", that's what I would class as "English lines".

Shame the photo of Fenton is warped at the end, distorting the shape of his head. Here is better one (but a bit small).

'English' type GSDs are slightly heavier-built with slightly different proportions to the 'German' type GSDs. They're the same breed though, and are supposed to adhere to the same standard.

But they all have the long muzzle and upright ears (although sometimes the ears don't stand up properly and flop over to the side, a condition known as 'soft ear'). If she looks a bit lab-like she probably has a recent lab ancestor!

This type of GSD is a lot different in proportion to that laid down in the breed standard(10 length to 9 0r 8 in height & no more than 48 % depth of chest to height at the withers-even the dog in the picture on the KC site doesn't conform to the BS))  let alone the "International"type

GSDs shouldn't have long muzzles, the muzzle should be very strong & no more than half of the length of the head

The muzzle is long in comparison to that of a labrador, though. :)

This modern day alsatian looks more like a cross between a GSD and a giraffe, definitely not to my taste.  Give me the German Shepherd any day as it is meant to be
