No not yet.

I am trying to think of somebody that can come with me as Mike isn't too keen and wouldn't feel particularily happy going on my own :)

I also want to do a bit more 'local' research before I decide go :)

Is this for a puppy?  If Mike's not keen why not just look elsewhere?  No shortage of Labrador breeders or are you considering something else? ;)
- By LJS Date 17.08.06 10:18 UTC
No not at all as the many breeds he has I wouldn't want :)

I am doing it because he has invited me to go but wouldn't feel comfortable going on my own :)

1. When did you first own a dog?
Brought up with dogs and dog breeding. Only been without a dog when in Uni and a few years after when working shifts.

2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?
Ten

3. How many breeds do you own , ever or now?
Three

4. Do you breed ?
About every three years. One breed only.

5. How many of the breeds you own do you show?
One

6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house?
All in the house except when girls are in season. Then the boys go to the kennels. Litters also go to the kennels at 6 weeks old.

7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?
Two

8. So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam. Please put the three things in order and explain why
Genetics, including genetic health (eg freedom from inherited breed problems) and temperament. Then type. Then compatibility of individual dog and bitch, including thought out line breeding as well as appearance. Titles more or less irrelevant.

9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think
I'd wonder why they thought I would think they were and be automatically cautious.

1. When did you first own a dog?
The first one I was solely responsible for was 17 years ago

2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?
Excluding when I had a litter, 4 is the maximum so far

3. How many breeds do you own , ever or now?
Only one breed

4. Do you breed ?
Yes, so far only once, although plans are afoot ;)

5. How many of the breeds you own do you show?
One breed owned, all shown or retired from showing

6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house?
ALL in the house - sleeping in my bedroom ;)  Wouldn't have it any other way!

7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?
Have only bred once but I would say a max of two litters from one bitch - unless, such as only one puppy resulting from a mating, and bitch in good health / condition etc I *may* consider a third mating

8. So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam, Temperament. Please put the three things in order and explain why
Genetics IMO also covers health & temperament so is a priority.  Most pups bred, even by top breeders, go to pet homes so it's crucial to ensure that pups are healthy, well adjusted representatives of their breed.
I see no point in breeding from a bitch or using a stud dog where there is a lack of good breed type so looks do play a vital role in a mating too.  Sire and dam would have to compliment each other in genotype and phenotype - the "colour" of a pedigree matters not as there are often many *unseen stars* from matings that were their owners persuaded to show could easily trouble the best.  IMO it's more important to ensure that we don't double up on faults and failings - we should breed to improve on what we have and to protect our favoured breed(s) from exaggeration towards a particular trend or fashion.

9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think
Erm, would probably depend on the circumstances for the statement being made - if it came like a bolt out of the blue I'd probably think "yeah, right! and be suspicious" :D - but OTOH if it was part of a general discussion I'd not want to jump to conclusions :)
