I've just had a devastating phone call from my bank, someone has managed to get hold of my card details & has placed £800 worth of bets on a online betting system in Luxembourg!  I'm happy Barclays identified these as fraudulent & have set up an investigation but am absolutely gutted this has happened.  I am always so careful about which websites I use & when giving out my details, you always think it won't happen to you....:(

Has anyone else dealt with this recently?  I've been told they will block my card & attempt to stop the transactions, I've also cut my card up, is there anything else I should try & do?

Ooooohhh yes, this happened to me in May this year. In my case I supposedly bought £2500 worth of airline tickets in India

Try not to panic, Barcaycard sorted it all out, and I wasn't expected to pay anything in that respect. However it did take them 4 months to get to the bottom of it all, but there were 30 odd separate transactions to sift through.

It'll be alright in the end I promise. :)

The problem with these online betting sites is they don't ask for any verification of the card owner, I have actually highlighted this problem with these sites before, but they don't appear to have changed their criteria.

Apart from getting a new card the only other advice I can give you is to check your account daily that way you can highlight a problem much quicker, it is something that we should all do, as unfortunately progress and computers have left us all wide open to these problems. :-(

Take heart that it will be sorted. I am with the RBS and I noticed that my account had been debited with a transaction of £1000 and the next day of £500( thankfully because of online banking I noticed within 2 days) both amounts into a Building Society in Bath. Within 24hrs the bank had refunded all the money without question provided I report the matter to the police as a suspected fraud.
After a while it transpired that the culprit had been a checkout employee of Tesco's and had fleeced customers of £1000's.
A bad experience and one that unfortunatly can happen no matter how careful you are
