- By Nikki D [gb] Date 14.11.06 13:40 UTC
Hi,being a new puppy owner i have automatically got 6 weeks free kennel club health plan insurance.Never having had a dog before could i ask for some advice on insurance, should i carry on the kennel club one,or are there better ones out there. One thing that KC does which is important to me is to cover the dog overseas as we intend to take him to France next summer. The cost is £309.50 Annually.Any advice or views would be appreciated. Thanks

M&S are definitely worth looking in to. I am with them & they have been excellent & lots of other people too. I am not sure about going overseas but most do. Best to check them out first.

Not meaning to hijack this post but I've just got my renewal notice from M&S. I was dreading it after reading all the posts about their premiums going up - Tchi's is now £14.76 a month, up from £12.74 - seems like a good deal to me as I claimed over £500 last year :)

im with m&s too, no problems so far, and ive claimed loads.

One thing though, if you change insurers remember anything you have already seen your vet about (apart from boosters etc) will not be covered under the new policy and also if you change make sure you do it 14 days before the other one runs out as you arent covered for illness for the first 14 days on most policies.

And on this note, I looked into M&S this morning but had to forget them as it says you can not BREED from the insured animal!

I insured with the highest plan which covers a year overseas with Healthy Pets Insurance, as the one with Pinnacle was going up and up.  for a 4 year old Elkhound in Hereford it came to £112 and odd pence.

But deceiving insurance companies is as sensible as standing in the road burning fivers surely? Only there's always going to be the time when you make a claim and the truth comes out. At which point the claim is refused and all the money you've paid in premiums has been wasted!

If he is used at stud I cant see the truth coming out unless he catches an STD   My vet doesnt need to know and therefore neither does the insurance company.

Im sorry - but imo that is basically dishonest :(

What if he ruptures a cruciate ligament in the act of tying?   It has been known to happen!

............and STDs are not all that rare.  Any falsehood told to an insurance company can get you in an awful lot of trouble and I would not be surprised if it does not affect your ability to obtain insurance generally, they all seem to share information these days.

your right it is dishonest
