Does anyone know of a reputable courier for chilled semen within the UK pref the north? Or an airline company that will take this on?
Regards
Bears Mum

Afraid not, but if it is regarding importing then unfortunately they don't allow chilled semen to be imported to the UK, if they did I would be willing to use it.
i don't understand that as one of the top kennels that i know has been improrting frozen seaman from italy for their bitches from dogs that died years ago and having puppies from them and they are in the showring.

Frozen is different from chilled. I didn't realise that different rules applied though. Are you wanting to import or export it?

Just wondering if anyone on the list has experience of importing semen from USA. Are there any vets that are reccommended/experinced in the ins and outs. I guess it is a drawn out process?

ROFL!! I'm sorry I know that's not what you meant I just have a funny sense of humour!

I have the rules from MAFF on my computer as they vary as to which country the semen comes from. It does have to be stored for 6 months outside UK in some cases and a shorter period in others and various rules apply to the health status of the donor before and after collection. Only frozen semen is allowed to be imported at present.

DEFRA (formerly MAFF) allow both frozen and chilled equine semen to be imported into the UK - is it different for canine semen?

appears to be unless they have chaqnged the rules since the summer, as I was looking at that option rather than the long travel abroad to mate my bitch.

Interesting that horses didn't have to go into Quarantine when other animals did before PETS?

I once queried this with MAFF many years ago & was told "horses don't get rabies( this was by one of their vets

) My thoughts were most horses that travel abroad & return to the UK belong to very wealthy people on the whole & cynic that I am these sort of horses are in a multi million £ business & money buys lots of things !!!!!!
However if I had been told rabies in horses is fairly rare I might have believed him ;)
"but the Kennel Club will not register a litter produced by AI from one of her female progeny, unless the said progeny has already produced at least one registered litter naturally."
I thought this was strange....is it just to stop people always using AI??
I imagine it's to make sure that we don't end up with dogs that can't reproduce naturally.
