Our pups are 6 weeks old today.  For the last couple of days when the mum pops in to say hello, she regurgatates her food.  Both last night and this morning it was after she had been fed, so it was her whole food.  Is this something I have to put up with? or any tips.  She hardly feeds them now, really only when they manage to pin her down!  There's nine pups, so it's a bit like an attack!
Also do you carry on soaking food for a while or is it OK to go onto dry now?  The last few days I've been adding some dry if they clear their bowls and they seem to love it.
Thanks, Sam.

Never reared puppies on dry food but bitches bringing up their ffood for p[uppies is quite normal & mine often did

My bitches regurgitate food for their pups - it's the natural way of weaning them. :) To avoid it, keep her away from the litter for an hour after she's eaten, then she stands a chance of keeping her dinner for herself!

As for soaking the food, I always serve food wet to make sure my dogs are properly hydrated.

Some bitches do just do this, does the mum see the pups being fed at all? Is it possible to put a few bowls of food down for the pups and also feed mum next to them with a bowl of feed too?

You may feed completely dry at this age, a lot of breeds will eat it if the pups are running in to pinch mum's dry food then just put a couple of bowls of dry down for them too, are you also giving them chicken and mince with rice and scrambled egg? They need a variation of tastes and textures, if you feed these with mum too, (stand and supervise so mum does not steal the pups too) that way she will not feel the need to regurgitate her food as she knows they are eating other foods.

Whenever one of my mum's bitches had a litter, the Alpha female would also go near the whelping area and regurgitate too.

Not sure which breed you have, but aswell as feeding my bitch with her pups I also give her raw chicken wings which she takes into the pups, (of course you must supervise this) so she feels she is feeding them without regurgitation, (even though for the first few weeks they just looked at them, and I secretely removed them, but later on they loved scoffing them down too. :-D)

If I feed Josie with the pups, they just want to feed off her, and she eats all their food, or tries to!  They are getting Eukanuba puppy food soaked, some srambled egg then if they scoff it all I put some dried in.  I'm sure they are getting plenty of water.  Josie's breeder is visiting later, I'll see what she says about the dry.
Thanks.

I try to manage this problem by making sure the pups are fed and satisfied before mum and then keep her away for about an hour.  It is difficult as feeding seems to give them the urge to nurse but if the pups are contented this should not stress her too much.  After about an hour I let her to them for a bit of milk if they want.   My puppies are on dry food by about 6 weeks they seem to enjoy the texture very much of course they have access to water all the time.
