I've been sorting through some old family photos and negatives and I need lots of copies. I've already spent a lot of money getting  old negs developed. Now I'm wondering if I should do this myself. I'm not very good with technology, we only have a B&W printer. Would it be best to get  a scanner to copy the photos? I'd be very grateful for some advice on how to do this.

I scanned all our old photos with an old scanner then just put them onto disc (DVD). Not hard to do if you just follow your scanners instructions.  You can now buy printers with scanners included, some of these will even scan your negatives. Really depends on how much you want to spend, it may be worhwhile buying a PC magazine that is reviewing printers/scanners.

Good Luck.

I've got a scanner that I've used to scan photos onto my computer.  The printing quality isn't that good but I think that's the printer not the photo quality.  I am going to burn the photos onto a CD and then take them to the photoshop to be developed (one day).  I think this will probably be the cheapest way of reproducing them.

Through searching my family tree I stumbled upon a website of a distant cousin who has posted a photograph of my Great Great Grandparents :) She has since sent me a photograph of what looks like my Grandad as a little boy in a children's home.  My mum has never seen these pictures and she can't wait to see them.  This is when modern technology can be appreciated as a treat.

i know a lab thats doing a special offer of  a large no. of slides onto a cd plus a print at excellent price, but maybe yours arent slides? This would be better way, and even with negs might be a better way as to buy a realy decent scanner to get results you will be pleased with can easily start at £3 or £400 lpus a decent printer and all the hours it will take to do it. I think a lab is your best bet personally.

Thanks for all yor help. I've been quoted £1.20 for 6x4 prints. I'll just have to see how many I need and weigh up what I'll do next.
Sam, I think it was you that helped over a question about my sons lost wedding photos about a corrupt memory card. Well still no luck yet but a photography shop are now looking at it so fingers crossed they can help.
