First time in a long history of owning dogs that I have a dog who has started coughing.  Very infrequent at present, once or twice on some days, then nothing at all.  She has had homeopathic nosodes.  Can anyone give me some more info on kennel cough, treatment and incubation period.  She hasn't been in close contact with any other dogs (apart from my own) for around 2 wks.

I give mine paediatric Benyln to relieve symptoms if they seem troubled but do not use antibiotics unless there is any indication of a secondary infection.

Thank you for the info, Isabel.  My worry is that the other two will catch it.  Seems very mild at present so I will keep an eye on things.

No good worrying about that now the incubation period means they will have already done so it they are going to.   The majority of dogs do seem to cope with the virus very well so don't worry too much :)  Try to keep them away from other peoples dogs though although I do recognise that the period of time mentioned in the link is rather impractical, a week or two after the symptoms disappear is probably more achievable, as it is a greater danger to those that have litters or the very old and frail.

use the non-drowsy benolyn rather than the drowsy one. 

I don't think it matters if you use the paediatric.  I use the drowsy one in the hope it does make them sleep better and I make sure they don't drive or use machinery :)

Isabel, I bought the drowsy one with a view to having a non-coughing quiet sleeping dog but she was unwell after using it and was sick.  That is why I suggested using the non-drowsy. 

Could it be the reverse sneeze trachea cough that some dogs have, my chihuahuas have this at times.

I guess you have to look out for any medication disagreeing with an individual :)  I have had no problems with this one.
