Topic Other Boards / Foo / Cordless home phones - reliability??????
- By Ailsa [gb] Date 10.11.06 18:32 UTC
Just wondering how reliable you find cordless home phones. I have just binned my second one as it wasn't cutting off after use and was mucking up my phone line (this phone was a digital one). My previous cordless phone was an analogue one with the pull up aerial and sometimes it would answer a call when it rang and sometimes it just continued to ring despite picking it up from the base or pressing the green button if off the base.

With dogs and kids I found the cordless phone brilliant but after having problems with them I am in 2 minds about forking out for another one. Both phones were from a big well known make.

Just wondering if they have a limited lifespan. Any thoughts.

I have had a digital Panasonic one for years without any problems.

I don't know if the area you live makes a difference to the reception.

Hi Ailsa,
I have had 2 cordless phones and both were total rubbish.
I am now back with the good old tried and tested BT phone connection, with wires everywhere.  Plus a mobile for all other calls.

I have dug out an old wired connection phone for the moment at least. It may not be so convenient but it is not mucking up my phone line like my digital cordless one was. Both my cordless phones were BT. Looks like Panasonic ones seem fairly reliable from the various posts.

Perhaps I expect stuff to last too long. Can't rememeber exactly how long the analogue one lasted (less than 2 years I think) but the digital one has lasted about 2 1/2 years. By comparison the wired phone I dug out of the attic is 7 years old and still working fine.

I have an old wired phone that's well over 20 years old and works brilliantly. Cordless phones always make the person using them sound like they're down a well!

We've had an analogue one for so long we can't remember when we got it. And a digital one for ~ 2 years. Neither have ever given any problem, though the analogue one has a shorter range and only works in certain rooms.

We've also got Panasonic ones, two of them, five years old and no problems at all. We bought BT ones for my parents....rubbish !.

Panasonic here too, I could use them right down to my sisters house 5 doors down the road!

Had them 2 years now, had Panasonic before as well, very reliable.

I had a bt one which was digital and only lasted 3 months. Have now had a digital phillips one bought from the market quite cheap and is really good. Holds its charge well and never seems to run down even when I forget to put it back on the charger for a couple of days.

Also got a panasonic and find it very reliable - about 3 years old - before that think we had BT diverse and those too were fine.  Both digital cordless though.

I couldnt do with out a cordless phone,i never use the wall phone anymore,i have to make cups of tea when i'm chatting on the phone,or if the tv is on too loud in the room i'm in i can walk away to another one, which obviously is impossible on a fixed phone.
Panasonic here to,going on 3 years with out any problems, the one before this one we had for 4 years before it conked out.I dont know if ours is digital or analogue, what the difference?

Mine works great, but then it's fairly new. Think it's a BT one..... yep, BT Studio 1100 (just checked).

We've had our BT Siemens and our Panasonic cordless phones for years.  Couldn't be without them really.  From past experience, in days gone by when I still ived with my mum and dad, I've found that using them in the shower isn't good for them!  :D

I hate them!!!!!

I binned mine, and I detest ringing friends who have one, either the sound is awful, it gets interference or beeps or cuts off completely, nope don't like them at all, give me a good old phone anytime.

We've had a cordless digital with answer machine (Tevion) from Aldi for about 5 years, maybe longer :) It's brilliant, if we lose the phone there's a find facility on the charger :D :D and if it needs charging it lets you know in plenty of time to recharge :)  we bought it as a pair and one of them is in OH's workshop up the garden.  Both work in all the rooms of the house and in the garden :D :D  Mind you I've never used the answering machine facility becuse we have BT answer ;)  this being the only answering facility my MIL can cope with (she's getting a little dippy ;) )   We used to have a BT phone but it was really crap ;) :)

Have a cordless Bt Synergy - it's fantastic, never been a problem and has excellent range.  Can use it in my yard and fields, and that's through very thick stone walls too.
