Hi folks,

I don't think of myself as a busy body but I'm really starting to get annoyed with the school kids around my area. Every lunchtime and breaktime they come and sit outside our door (and not just one or two, I'm talking bout groups of about 15-20), blocking the way and leaving litter everywhere. Next door's garden has a bush that looks like it has crisp packets for flowers. Today there was an actual mountain of litter when I came out of the door. It's disgusting. I went and asked the police what we can do about it (one of them threatened my flatmate too- the boy was about 12!) and they said to call them but I'm guessing by the time they arrive the kids will be gone. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do? (Flatmate wants to throw a bucket of water on them, I want to borrow an Irish Wolfhound and a Great Dane and ever so politely say "Excuse me I've got to take Flopsy and Mopsy for a walk"- their eyes would pop out of their heads at little me with two dogs almost as tall as them, and I'm fairly sure they would get out of the way sharpish!) *looks wistfully into the distance at the thought of owning an irish wolfhound*

Wasn't there something recently about classical music persuading kids to move on?  You could try playing it loudly with the windows open when they start to gather!  Or someone like Des O'Connor! :D

Could you complain to the school about what their pupils get up to in what is technically still school hours?:

Call the police when it happens - believe me they do respond quickly to this sort of thing - or at least they do round our area

Plus complain to the local school that they come from

If they are littering suggest picking it all up and bagging it and then take it to the school!

Yep, classical music is a deterrant. I sometimes play it in the car and two of mine hated it (used to relax my son but then he was introduced to it at a much younger age). 

We have piped "popular" music at work :rolleyes:  It's enough to make me keep my hours to minimal :)

We used to have school children (secondary) waiting outside our house for the school bus. Not any more, not since I reported them for sitting on my car while they waited and telling me to ' F off'  when I told them to move. Now they have to walk further down the road ;) and it was only 24 hours later, so really pleased with that :)

It is against most school rules without parental authorisation any pupil should not leave the school grounds at any time during the school day as the school is responsible at all times.  Please get in touch with the head.

Call the school and request that they have a member of staff there waiting for them.
Ask them to tell the kids that CCTV will be taken and the kids involved will be spoken to WITH their parents - they do this at our school.
Sometimes local residents are given digital cameras to take pics of the nuisance children.

I can imagine how annoying and unpleasant this is. :(
Keep nagging at the school - it is THEIR responsibility to do something about it.
Do they stand or sit?

We had an issue for a week or so with kids sitting on a wall by our house - well yobs not kids, didn't want to approach in case they took it out on our cars so I had a masterplan ... everytime I walked in my wellies I made sure I trod in dog poo then scraped it all off on the wall. They moved on and didn't return.

Sorry I had to laugh at this one!! But seriously this is so annoying!! Sometimes I feel that the more honest and law-abiding you are, the less rights you have .......

I know! And I really feel sorry for him..... I'd be extremely annoyed!

at my daughters school 15 children where given on the spot fines last week for dropping litter 80.00 each, this was outside the school and the local shops, my friend who lives near the school says it is a night mare, she has a hedge outside her house and she is always finding crisp pakets and bottle and cans stuffed into the hedge and there is a bin on the lampost and one on the corner empty , we got letters home about the dropping of litter and the fines that where happening.
the problem i have is they are pinching the gravel off our drive way and then when walking down the street throw it at cars and windows of houses, they are not just taking little handfulls they are scooping it up into their jumpers i know to some people it sounds petty, but every day 5 days a week all school time it can get annoying.

Maybe it's time to get 'creative' and spray something noxious on your drive gravel ;)  that way they'll be reluctant to pick it up ;)

Round here it's the little darlings all over the road as they walk home from school jumping into the pathway of the cars, pushing each other in the road, throwing things at the cars and into the road, some even bang on your bonnet and shout abuse   One of the little darlings got knocked down last monday - have they learned?  Nope!!  It's the car driver I feel sorry for, it never seems to be the kids' fault for running into the road suddenly :(
