I've recently changed over to Nutro after reading that it would be good for my Bichon Frise as she suffers from really sensitive skin. I've also put Hugo on the puppy version and he loves it, but has anyone experienced their puppies being hyper on it? For the past week or so Hugo has been acting like something possessed~flying round and round the room at 100 miles an hour, racing up and down the garden at full speed and clearing the stairs four at a time.
He gets lots of walks and LOTS of attention as he's so adorable, so I don't think he's bored~I personally think he's just a very lively exuberant pup, but my husband thinks it might be the food. I know lots of you use Nutro, so I thought I'd ask for a few opinions if you don't mind.
Many thanks,
Michele

what one are you useing, all my pups go on lamb /rice puppy not the chicken i think that high in protein.

Are you are feeding 'choice plus' (working dog formula)? This is the only one that I know of in the range that could make your dog hyper :-) what breed is he Michele?

I've not experienced any hyperactivity with my lot on Nutro, even the two that are being fed on "Performance" (used to be Choice Plus) are fine. I've used both the Choice range & the lamb & rice range & can't say I've noticed any difference in behaviour. It would be unusual for Nutro to have this affect - a few brands are often mentioned when people talk about increased hyperactivity in their dogs but Nutro isn't one of them to my knowledge

Hi Michele,
I hope you don't mind me responding to your posts all the time...it's just nice to have a fellow Mini Schnauzer owner to compare notes with!
I was going to swap Stan to Nutro as well, but you are making me think twice now. Stan's been having itchy skin problems and wet exczema problems, so i decided to swap his food. My local petshop owner is having trouble getting a bag of Nutro for me, so i bought some of the new Hill Science Complete for dogs with skin problems instead. It's very expensive but I was desperate. He's certainly not scratching as much anymore, but he suddenly started behaving like Hugo, rushing around, going mad, practically bouncing off the walls (he has his mad five minutes a day but this was noticeably different behaviour). I noted the protein content was 28%. I've now switched to Nature Diet instead and he’s calmed down again. I'm wondering if I should try the Nutro now, as this will probably start him off again. What is the protein content of the Nutro you are using? I personally think the food has something to do with Hugo's behaviour although it's hard to tell with such a young, lively dog. They do get their mad bursts of energy, but it shouldn't be their typical behaviour.

One of the pups I bred was hyper on Oscars and we changed her to Nutro when she stayed with us for 2 weeks. She calmed down a lot, she then went home and after another 4 weeks on the food with her owners they said she had become an angel. She listened to them and was no longer hyper.
So have found it good for calming her.
My 4 young dogs are all doing really well on it and none are hyper.

Thanks for all your replies. I was quite sure that it wasn't the Nutro, I just wanted my mind put at rest after my husband made the suggestion. Nicola, don't apologise for responding to my posts all the time~I love hearing from you~it's great knowing another Mini Schnauzer owner! I definately think you should give Stan a try on Nutro, it really is meant to be brilliant for dogs with skin problems. If you log onto nutro.co.uk you can request specific samples of whichever flavours you'd like to try, and they will also send you info on your nearest local supplier. My supplier didn't have the puppy food, so Nutro sent it direct and it arrived next day. They also have a really helpful nutritionist you can speak to on the phone if you need help in deciding which one is the best for you. My cats are also on it and they love it too. I should be getting commission for this!
Anyway, now I know Nutro's not to blame, I'll just have to accept that I've got a nutty dog~but I love him to death and wouldn't have him any other way!

Michelle,
Just when I thought I was the only one to have, not want a mini schnauzer......................
......... not that I dont want mine, before I get beseiged with offers of a new home!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 1 year old dog, thankfully no skin problems, I have not read the other posts leading to this one, so I dont know any of the topics you have discussed.
Probably of no interest what so ever but I was recommended to feed beta dried complete food, and that has suited Zak fine.
