What would you suggest that is a safe way to heat a double garage, ???  thanks

Why do you want to heat a garage?
Heat hot or just stop things freezing?

Insulate it as a starter - a secondary lining of the walls or plasterboarding, say - but be exceedingly careful about any method of heating especially if you plan to keep a car in it! And even if you don't keep a car in it, be aware that any petrol residue is potentially lethal.

If you plasterboard it use a fire resistant foil backed variety.
You could use an electric heater with a cut out switch, depends how hot you want it?

My guess would be to leave dogs/puppies in there, hence the heat question.

My 2 Rottweilers dont like to come in the house very much and do not settle at night inside the house ,as they like to be outside. I have made them 2 lovely carpeted and covered dens in the garage which they like to go into and sleep. I just wanted to have a heat source to take any chill off the air on very cold days and nights.

thanks.

If they have a covered den to go into they probably won't need/want a heat source. Dogs do build up their own heat if in an enclosed area. That said I've only ever had borzois that lived outside and they have a lot more hair than rotties :) What about a halogen heater, economical and safe even if knocked over?

Our dogs are outside in a shed, sawdust on the floor, hay in their beds with a heat lamp for cold nights.  I could sleep in there - it is lovely and warm, even first thing this morning with a layer of ice over the water bowls outside.  I think it was you, Chaumsong who recommended sawdust and hay for bedding - it is great, the dogs love it, I love it!  The shed is a lot easier to keep clean and fresh now.  Thank you!

Yes, that's what I always used - and don't the dogs smell lovely when sleeping on hay :)

This is how mine are and all my families too.

With my last two doggies, they lived in the shed.  I was worried about the cold so i bought a heat tube from an Ironmongers (how old fashioned!).  They are used to keep the frost off plants in sheds etc.  They aren't really very warm to the touch, but I put a cage round it, just in case.  I liked this instead of a halogen heater, for the lesser fire risk!!!

They certainly kept the tempaerature up a few degrees on those really cold days.  But my dogs were only out there in the day so night time solutions might require a little more oomph.

Hope this helps.

What about coats for the dogs? Might be safer than a heat source. I have a fleece for my gsp (I'm not big on heating, it costs money :D) for inside the house on cold winter nights. He doesn't go out in it though ;)
