my bitch welped 1 pup nearly 2 hours ago, but, the water sack is still hanging out of her, I've never seen this in all the years ive been breeding, do I leave her, or, contact the vet, she is not in any distress and still lpanting, but not pushing.

Try a run round the garden with her.
if this does not get things moving a call to the vet would be a good idea. Better to take no risks.

Hi this is her 3rd litter, never had problems like this before. I will try the garden bit.

Keep us informed of progress.
Is it the water bag from 1st pup?

yes think so, had her out in the garden and now walking her up and down the hall on her lead. she is fine. its def. not a puppy in it. Just shows even after 16+ years of having pups things like this get to you. LOL.

Any idea how many pups she is carrying?
Maybe only the one and that is why she has gone on strike?
Worth a scan to see if any more to come.

Definately more than one, I.ve just managed to get the water bag out and the afterbirth from the first pup. so hopefully things should progress quite quickly now. but if nothing by half past I will phone the vet.  Thanks for your help.

Good to hear all's well - how many were there in the end?
- By marguerite [gb] Date 03.11.06 11:58 UTC
Just 4 which is o.k. for my breed and two of each. all good weights as well. Sleeping and feeding well beside mum this morning, I'm lucky I managed to get to bed for a bit of sleep as the welping room is beside my bedroom so can hear if anything is going on. Looking forward to the next 8 weeks bringing them up and seeing all the personalities develop.
