Topic Dog Boards / General / Whos got the oldest dog?
- By WestiesRock [gb] Date 01.11.06 16:11 UTC
I have two Westies, one a year old, and the other 3 years old.  I was just wondering who has the oldest dog on this site.  My friend also has a Westie, and he was 16 this year, and hes still going strong.

Not me, my two are only 19 and 16 months.  But I do have an old horse who is 47yrs old and going strong.

47?  That's got to be some kind of record.  Can you document that and submit to Ripleys or some such?  Sorry, know we are on dogs here but, my gosh, that is an incredible age for a horse.  What's his breeding?  My poochie girl is 13 and a half.  I'd like her to live forever but if she did I'd want her to always be age six.

Its not a record although it is an exceptional age.  But at the rescue not far from us they had one celebrate its 50th birthday last spring.  Anyway although called Harri she is a mare and just a mix breeding of nothing paticular standing at 14.2.  Always been stuborn and self opionated so as she has everything her own way and goes where she wants to go, she is just too subborn to age in mind

Blimey!! I've not known a horse older than 33! Is he in the record books?
- By WestiesRock [gb] Date 02.11.06 20:40 UTC
Hi Bevb,
I nearly fell off my chair.  47yrs old, thats amazing.  My sister has a horse who is 27 next year, and we thought she was old.
My oldest Westie who's 3 wont be seeing 4 if his dad finds out he's just chewed his golf glove!!! :-)

I have a golden oldie at 14 and a golden youngster at 17 months.  Think the oldest dog is likely to be a smaller breed as they seem to last the longest.

Copper's only 7 but I did have a cat that lived to be 21 and another that was 17 when he died.  Can't believe that horse is 47!!

Don't know how old my oldest is :) Might be about 10. My aunt had a beagle who lived to about 17 1/2 :)

our eldest dog was a labxcollie sweep he was pts at 18 1/2 years old, he was a family dog

Our previous two toy poodles have lived to be just over 14, but we're hoping that with her better diet, we'll have Roxy a lot longer (she's 3 just now).  :)

we have a Briard who is 13 1/2 now which is a pretty good age for a large dog.

And we have a boxer girl who is 12 now

....looks like Annie's golden oldie is in the lead so far.......:)

I have a german shep x Collie and he's 12 1/2 now :)

My cocker is just 12 in a few days time.  I think some people are cheating, giving their oldest dogs ever ages, the "competion" is for the oldest just now ;)

Mine are aged , 5 yrs, (will be 6 in Jan), 4 yrs (will be 5 in Jan), and 4.  All westies. The oldest one lived until he was 15.

My eldest one is 13  and still going strong :)

My oldest isn't all that old at 11 yrs 8 mths BUT seeing as he is a Cavalier with really bad MVD and the vet said he wouldn't see Christmas 2002 and that according to the KC's health survey average age for a Cavalier is 11 yrs 5 mths I feel he's pretty special anyway! :D :D

My brother lost his lab today who was 15yrs and 8 months.  My mums' lab was 14 in May so that makes him 14yrs and 6 months - not bad for working dogs who've lived outside!
- By WestiesRock [gb] Date 02.11.06 20:37 UTC
Hey Jackyjat,

Sorry to hear about you brothers lab, how sad :-(.  But what a good age he lived to though! Im sure he'll make good friends with my first dog up in the doggie sky.
- By munrogirl76 Date 02.11.06 20:39 UTC
My two are 6yrs and 18mths, so not the oldest, but hopefully that means I'll have them for a long time yet (fingers crossed).

My girl is 14,(as of last Thursday) very proud of her for reaching this age considering she  had her leg amputated and chemotherapy over 6 years ago due to the bone cancer, never imagined she would make 10 let alone 14. (Labrador)

Hi, my father's partner has a terrier mix whelped at Xmas 86 ( she remembers its birthday as she bred him herself ). That makes Taffy 20 this Xmas.  He is very doddery but still enjoying life and likes to still flirt with lady dogs.  My friends Dane was 15 when she died, I believe that is very old for  Great Dane.
- By Jetstone Jewel [ca] Date 03.11.06 14:56 UTC
Wow, does that make Taffy top dog for this post?  Yay Taffy.

My weimaraner made it to 14 yrs and that was after being diagnosed with a heart murmer at a year old and told things were not looking good and to make the most of her.... we sure did :) :)

My oldest is 17 years and 3 months, and still going strong.

My puppy-farm papillon was 17 when he finally gave up the ghost.  He was senile and incontinent and I had to make the hardest decision of my life - but that was a few years ago now and I've got over it, thankfully.
