I have to agree with Helen, Jack russells always seem yappy & snappy. Cannot stand drool hanging out the side of the mouth, even less wiping it on your legs....URggggH! Prefer furry dogs to the smooth coat, although I know they shed everywhere. I love them. Didn't like SBT's until we keep meeting a puppy over the park & him & Coco, our TT get on so well together, so changed my mind !!

If I were being picky then I would say no squashed faces, nothing that drools, no curly/high tails, no small dogs, no terriers, nothing that needs clipped...but...on the other hand I can guarantee if I got to know a dog with any (or all!) of these points I would still love it :)

Not keen on terriers except my friends JR who is the sweetest nature you could ever want, she is dentist to my 3 BMD's, give me a big squishy hairy cuddly dog anyday.
Quite like GSD'S, Leo's, Newfies, Siberians, and saw a pic of a Russian Guard Dog once, lovely, never could find out anything about them though?
Anything below knee level is a cat isn't it?

Not Russian terrier it was definayely a guard dog, Berny size and a red/white colour very similar markings to a berny. Similar build to a Berny or St Bernard probably from a similar gean pool. Like the marramas or guarding sheepdogs from that area.
I tried to find some info on the net but returned nothing. The pic was in one of the dog papers and was showing him winning a big show in Russia, but no other info.
I am going to Russia on honneymoon next year and so will keep an eye out for any info over there, if we find time!!
Nine baby Berns born Monday and Mum and babies are doing fine, Dew claw day today and me and the other dogs are chickening out and going for a ride in the car while the vet does them, I physically hurt to hear the pups squeal. Anyone else such a wimp? I work in an A&E dept and can hold a fractious child while we stitch them up but not my Babies!

:D :D
fair enough ;)

Nothing jowly and slobbery for me - if I need a bath I'll run my own :). I also could not put up with a breed that took too much grooming so Yorkies, Old English and poodles etc are definitely out. Toy breeds with short coats look way to fragile though I would not mind a furry toy. I guess I just like the furries and the shorties! :)
I'm having a great laugh at all of your comments :-D I love all dogs, but have to agree with you on one of your points huskypup, slobbering I don't like either, I grew up with Rough Collies, and my grandfather had JR's, so dogs were part of my everyday life, I went to stay with my friend when I was 12 for a few days, who had a lovely Bulldog bitch, very friendly lovely girl, and she always wanted to sit with me, but she slobbered and dribbled all over me and I would not stay at her house again, as it made me feel sick!!! :-(
>Not Russian terrier it was definayely a guard dog,
Russian Black Terriers were developed in Russia as Guard Dogs! ;) It's not a little terrier - it was developed from the Giant Schnauzer and the Rottweiler. In the early days of their development they required two handlers in the ring (one on each side with tight leads so that they couldn't attack

) and the judge never touched them. Luckily temperament has been improved. More info
here.

Hi Jean
No definately not a russian black terrier wrong shape and size.
One day I will find them again, mind you probably not the right kind of temp for me I like my dogs to be soft and gentle, some of the eastern european dogs breeds can be very sharp!

Gosh never seen those before. and I couldn't help noticing some of them, especially the pups, looked just like leo pups

- only the colour was different
Edit: thats strange - the puppy one I was looking at had disappeared when I looked again

No Thes are not the dog in my pic. Look a bit fierce these!!
Am i right in thinking these look loke they have had their ears cropped?
The one I saw definately had a look of the bernese about them.
Pups all dew clawless now and happily tucked up with Mum now. Thank goodness that is done.

This is the one Thanks,
Not a brilliant temprament by the sound of things, maybe I'll stick to my Bernies for now but i do like the look of these dogs.
Do read the description it's quite amusing!! Even Berns can have you "Floating along behind your Dog!!"
My youngest broke my knee earlier this year!
>It wasn't a Caucasian Ovcharka was it
Wow! Never seen one of those before but that definitely floats my boat!! :D Beautiful!

I agree Lydia! :-) Mind you, Ellie's a bit of a dribbler - when I'm standing her on the table and baiting her, there's often this disgusting puddle of drool on the table under her chin!!

Bichon Frise need too much grooming, aren't overly bright, hard to house train, bark too much AND show their bums! But I guess I must like all that cos I've got three! :D :D :D I've been bitten by quite a few westies while grooming so not keen on them, Not keen on italian greyhounds - too breakable!
Anything below knee level doesn't float my boat and as I am 5ft 10in it rules a lot of dogs out.:) would break that rule though for an australian cattle dog, english bull terrier, french bulldog and a shitzu (I met 2 shitzu puppies who scared the living day lights out of my full grown newfie bitch so much respect to them

) Not keen on terriers apart from the one above. Adore dobes as I was lucky to be owned by one for 13 years and a more majestic, beautiful and elegant looking dog in my eyes has yet to be invented, adore big slobbery, hairy, drooly dogs and the more the better - thats why I have 2 of the monsters.:) Love greyhounds but until we got one wouldn't have given them a second glance, now as a family we are constantly cheekyboy spotting - all greyhounds are now called by my boys nickname and he certainly lives up to it.
Like Shaynlola that dog that was in the link was gorgous and I SO would.

I LOVE gundogs, with the exception of the American Cocker, though I am absolutely fascinated by the way their 'valance' (I'm sure there's a proper word for it, but I don't know it :D) moves when they're running round the ring. Generally I'm not into toy dogs (exceptions are individual based on lovely personality :)). My general rule is that a dog is over 10kg, and preferably tall enough to rest a hand on its head without bending :D Having said that I do love Border Terriers and am quite fond of JRTs though exceptions apply (like the one that tried to bite my gsp's testicles off

). But definitely HPRs and retrievers that float my boat, and I'm also fond of dalmatians and .. well I could go on and on.

Munrogirl, how can you not like Yankees - they are the most beautiful of all the gundogs!! Mind you, I agree the 'carpet look' isn't terribly practical in the field. :-D

I just don't like the head shape, and the nose is too short for me - I go in for loooooooong noses :D I love the carpet though, it just fascinates me, I could watch Am Cockers run round the ring for ever :D. And I'm sure they're lovely dogs - don't know any personally, so it wasn't based on personality. Generally I find I fall in love with ANY dog once I've met them :D
I LOOOVVVVVEEEE Staffies. Absolutely adorable and soooooo funny! I love all dogs whatever they look like, they are all incredible in their own little ways and generally speaking much nicer than people :D :D :D (present company excluded of course ;) )
I would have any breed so long as the dog has a bit of a naughty side, naughty to me spells bundles of character!
i'm not keen on poodles at all-any size or bedlingtons. I'm sure bedlingtons look quite nice in full coat, but i just don't get the weird clip on their head. I'm not keen on toy dogs, 'delicate' breeds like whippets (although i quite like saluki's) or corded breeds. Give me a lab any day.
I'm not a fan of the ones with pale coloured eyes. I'm sure they're very beautiful in their owners eyes but they just look a bit cold and calculating to me.
I'm pretty open minded about dogs - I'd have anything from a shihtzu to a newfoundland - but as with most people I'd have trouble with drool. I think EBT's are very striking and have great personailities - but not sure I'd have one. As I understand it, they're not for the novice owner and very....very strong.
I suppose I just like a big hairy armful - my golden retriever loves her hugs and cuddles and she's still silky soft so anything like her.
Dribblers- yuk although some are beautiful, just couldn't keep them myself. Some terriers- bedlington & fox mainly for the way they're trimmed. Just look a bit spooky. Love Pulis, Finnish Lapphunds, Eurasiers, wheatens & most others. Esp BIG dogs- leonbergers!!!

Agree about the pale eyes - bit creepy

. Love most dogs but the 'hairless' breeds don't float my boat. Chinese Crested, Mexican hairless and the Lowchen - what is with the bare bum look! Mind you the hairless cats are worse - remember the one on Friends - looked like an alien
http://ryejoli.com/
I have tried and tried and I really cannot think of a breed I don't like!!
Of course afghans are my first love, and I like larger dogs, but I wouldnt say to .......an affenpinscer, a dane, a chi, a poodle, a spinone, a jrt, a whippet, bernese, .......bring 'em on :D

Hmm....
I dont th ink there are any specific breeds i really DONT like - theres a lot who wouldnt suit my lifestyle though...
For all those whose appearance doesnt appeal i find their characters more than make up for it... i didnt 'like' yorkies, and then fostered a yorkie x for a while and her very 'im bigger than i look' character changed my mind a bit.
I say i dont like smooth dogs... but ive got one and i love her.
I dont like terriers but i have two with terrier ancestry and i love them.
I say i prefer tall dogs..... the tallest is only 26inchs, the others are all far smaller!
That said... i like tall, i like fuzzy/scruffy, i like drop ears, so this time round i WILL have a deerhound.... the last time i was giong to get a deerhound a bizarre sequence of events saw me with an orange saluki x.....
Em
Hi all,
Only just saw this thread! I had a good think about this one and can say for def that poodles do not float my boat. I don't know what is about them, but those stupid hair cuts/ribbons/snobby looks really wind me up. I would have said that dogs bigger than knee size are a proper dog but since eddie (JR) came into our lives I cannot say that now.
