Hi
There is a slight difference from coming into season shortly to about to give birth  no wonder she couldnt cope
Do you know who the father is, If she has a entire male I assume him but if she didnt even know she was pregnant can she say for sure. Is her entire male the same breed as mum?

Hope things go straight forward for you :)
thank you for your kind thoughts, ive had no sleep since she whelped ,you know i dont think i was as frightened having my children as much as i was when my lil girl had hers, im down stairs with them all 24/7 im so frightened somthing may go wrong it really broke my heart when the lil one died the day after its a horrible feeling somthing there for such short time but so much feelings when they are not there i got some nice piccs of her any way when they was born, the smallest oneis only 5 ounces in weight but he is feeding well now, ive had to learn so much i went out the day after and bought the book of the bitch which ive heard so much about and it as really helped:rolleyes:

My puppies are 3 weeks and I must say I am still sleeping downstairs with them, maily because I can't stop watching them they are better than any tv programme. Sending hugs to you and hope you are getting a little sleep.
Wow, talk about being thrown in at the deep end!!!
Glad you are so happy to have the pups, some may have just thrown their hands up and run around like headless chickens!!:-D
Sounds like the mum is doing well, newborn pups are the most amazing things to watch, I love it! Best to keep a good eye on them for the first couple of weeks anyway so watch away ;-) I too happily spend hours just sitting and watching, best relaxation therapy around.
Good luck and what a surprise for you. We're all here if you need us.

Wow! what a shock. Well done and good luck.

Hi
no that is ok as long as she is going back to feed and clean.
She is obvioulsy a modern girl who doent want to be tied down by pups
Wendy
No such thing as being a pain, that is what the forum is for, any little thing ask away. :-)
As lumphy says, each bitch is different, some will hardly leave their pups, others basically just get bored and want to be part of the household again. At this age the pups, just feed and sleep, once your bitch has fed and cleaned her pups there isn't much else to do, unless she is worn out and will then sleep alongside them.
As long as the pups are regularly checked by her, fed and cleaned then she is fine to leave them. Just keep an eye, that she is still being motherly to them, the minute a pup wakes and gives a wee squeak she should go running back to them.

If I were you I'd make sure I spent as much time in the whelping-room as possible, to encourage the mum to stay with the litter. They
do need her with them because they're temperature control isn't developed yet and they can easily get chilled. A half-hour break from them every few hours is fine (and necessary, because she needs exercise and fresh air) but she should still be spending the majority of the time with them.

WHAT ABOUT AFTER 3 WEEKS

Sorry caps on again
hi yes she spent the whole night with them last night , i spend as much time as i can with her to encourage her but its hard with 4 kids 2 horses and 2 more dogs lol... but as soonas she hears them cry she is there with them to cuddle clean and feed think its just me i do pannick as i think u cant be too careful when there is 5 little babies and mum she is with them now ive come out to have a brew and a rest lol b 4 the kids come home shes gone to sleep all banies are feeding the littlest fighting for the biggest teet anyway thanx again for all ure help no doubt il be back on soon asking some more questions
