You can currently legally download BBC radio programmes to your pc during a trial period.  Just wanted to ask if anyone has tried to do this with a 'listen again' show?  One I wanted to keep is due to be overwritten tomorrow and despite several attempts, I just can't seem to capture it on my pc.  It downloads something but not the actual programme.  Any ideas?

You can't download the listen again on to your PC but I suppose you could plug in a cassette recorder to your headphone socket & record it that way

You can only download certain programs via the BBC download page

What a shame but thanks for clarifying that MM.

I just took a quick look at the website. The one Listen Again show they had posted can be saved a couple of ways. There was an email option so you could email it to yourself. There was also a standalone real player option; you can right click and choose Save As to save the file on your PC. There might also be a copy of the media file in your temporary internet files. There usually is.

Hi Lori

One Listen Again show , there are loads Lori  - which site were you looking at?  Did try the email option but you just get sent an email containing a box saying click on that to listen to the show, ie nothing you can save. Did a lot of right clicking and saving as yesterday but didn't get anywhere :P.  Haven't tried looking at the temporary internet files though - I'll try that next.  Thanks. :)

Errrrr, I download listen again programmes as part of my work every day of the week! Perhaps you don't have the right software?
- By Moonmaiden Date 29.10.06 18:40 UTC
You shouldn't be as they are all BBC copyright programmes-unless of course you have a licence to download them from the BBC

Yep ;) educational establishment with an ERA licence :)

Then you will have appropriate soft ware for downloading, but members of the public are not allowed to download anything other than the ones via this link it is actually a criminal offence to download & save any other programmes

Is that the same law which makes it illegal to save any programme to video and keep it?
- By Moonmaiden Date 29.10.06 19:47 UTC
Yes although a blind eye is turned to recordings made for private use those made for public use if discovered have a hefty fine attached & advertising that you do this on a public forum is not very clever-especially when you have inoformation that means you can be identified

I sort of assume that this reply was aimed at me?

Firstly, I have said that I do it under licence as part of my job. You said it couldn't be done, all I did was say that it could, I haven't even said how ;)

Secondly, I believe it was you, who on a public forum, has suggested copying the programme using the headphone socket.... breaching exactly the copyright laws that you are so proudly professing knowledge of :)
- By Malakai [gb] Date 29.10.06 19:41 UTC
No, we just know how to do it ;)

I've given up - just wasn't meant to be!
