Can I please bring to everyones attention a tragic accident that has occured. An eight month old Golden Retriever puppy was left in the house whilst owners were at work. The puppy has gone into the 'office' and has had his tongue 'shredded'. The puppy has been put to sleep. Please ensure shredders are switched off as childrens enquiring fingers, dogs and cats are at risk. Something that I'm sure most of us would not think could happen, but unfortunately it does and it did. Also heard of another instance where a dogs ear got dragged in. I have asked my Vet to put a sign up in the surgery to warn people of this tragedy. Please pass info on. Thanks

How awful :( :( I've just checked ours and the safety lock wasn't on :( OH has been told off :( Not that I think either of ours would go near it, but this tragedy just shows how things do happen :(

And for anyone who, like me, thought nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that wouldnt happen (while promptly turning my shredder from the auto on to the off position just in case) googled it and this is what I found..............
http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/shredder.aspI am truely shocked that I was so wrong.
I have never heard of it before but it certainly makes sense and would never have thought it possible.
Poor poor animals :( :( :(

That's absolutely appalling. After reading this I immediately went to my computer file and added a warning to the notes I send out with new puppies in the bit about dangers in the home. I've also e mailed all my owners.
Oh, I can't think of anything as horrible as this, it doesn't bare thinking about, what a tragedy.
I honestly have never even thought of it, all our office equipment is upstairs so the dogs never get near them, but it is something I shall always be aware of now, bless the poor GR, it must have been in so much pain. :-(
Oh my God!! How awful. Poor little mite. I have just gone and switched mine off. Tansy shows a great interest in it and barks all the time we are shredding from just centimetres away. I never even thought of a tongue or an ear starting it off. Thank you for posting about this tragedy, and it is just a shame that it had to happen for it to be brought to our attention.
