A friend has just asked this:-

Has anyone had the problem where an 8 week old puppy had testicles in place, two months later they diseappear. If so did they descend
again?

Now I'm sure Ive seen this subject on here, but can't find it - has anyone got any comments/reassurance?

Thanks

Margot

I've known one to disappear at that age, not two, though. If they are drawn up at that age, there is always the risk of them being too big to descend again :-(  Gentle massage by someone who knows what she's doing, could help.

I had a labrador who was everything I had ever wanted for the show ring, he had two testicles and we checked all the way along and then at 5 mths one had disappeared. He won Best Puppy In Breed and Best Gundog puppy at a show with just the one.
We then tried a drug recommended by the vet and it brought it back down a little but was too big to get back down properly. I ended up selling him on to a pet home where he has been neutered.

My friend had a dog who as a puppy used to pull one up if he was a bit unsettled. He did this at his first few shows, and the judges sometimes had to find a way to subtly feel underneath him once he was back on the floor, as they wanted to place him but weren't sure whether the testicle was missing or if they just hadn't found it!!

I bought a minature dachshund (Muffin) years ago to show. He went from having none to two, to one, to none & then back to only having one! The breeder offered to have him back & admitted she had problems in her line with monorchids (apologies if that is spelt wrong). Obviously I couldn't let him go back, but I had paid a lot of money for a dog to show. I had him for 14 years & he was a super little dog, I did have to have him castrated though, on the advice of my vet as testicles that don't descend into the scrotum can cause problems.

Wasn't there a programme on the other week where some vets were giving castrated dogs implants, allegedly the dogs feel better with them? What rubbish? I can't beleive anyone is daft enough to do that!
