Well I have started to (well since i got mine) really love hungarian vizslas and I just love finding things out about them. But recently when ever I see a brilliant example of the breed (in my eyes - i am not that experienced) I get a sort of funny feeling and get really excited about it. Does anyone else get this when they see their breed or am I just CRAZY???
- By sara1bee [gb] Date 18.10.06 16:38 UTC
im the same, i go absolutely crazy and even if alone in the car i shout OH MY GOD ITS A SCHNAUZER!!! i always go to see them first at discover dogs and crufts, i love other breeds too but they are the best.
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 18.10.06 18:21 UTC
I have to admit I do this too. You don't see many of our dog breeds around here (Bernese and Gordon Setter) so whenever I do I nearly always speak to the owner/dog. Not sure which breed I love best though, although we have had Bernese longer and I adore them, our setter is a sweetie. A few weeks ago we passed a local park in the car and saw a young girl with a Swedish Lapphund (ours died in January and you never see them anywhere). I made my husband turn round and go back so I could go see it. When I walked up I realised that the girl was on her own (she was about 9 or 10) and I spent the rest of the day worrying that people would think I was trying to abduct her . Ah the world we live in! It was worth it to speak to the dog though :D

Oh definitely, I will follow a Cavalier all over the park or a castle or anything to catch up with his owners and have a nice chat! Only ever seen one Yankee outside a show, but would be just the same with them! :-)

We've always had Golen Retrivers until I met a Flat Coat and fell in love.  My husband then got me my Flat Coat and i have been smitten ever since.  I just go all silly when I see one.
- By yrlance Date 18.10.06 17:19 UTC
I remember many years ago when we were looking into getting a Leonberger, we went to Crufts and i was so excited to see so many in one place.  It still gives me an excited feeling at shows to see them all laying around totally relaxed and just great.  I do look at them differently as you get into the breed they all have their own special look.
But i know what you mean when its your fav breed.

You must be loving the current edition of dogs today then as they're taking pride place on the cover ;)
- By cutewolf [gb] Date 18.10.06 19:15 UTC
When I was first interested in Tollers I had done lots of research beforehand, then I went to a show and saw them... upon seeing them I got really excited and silly and felt like squealing "Eeee it's a Toller, it's a Toller!!!!" :D :D
I see them at shows regularly now so I'm not quite the same ;)  but I still get a warm fuzzy feeling when I see them (warm and fuzzy? It's probably Felix :D) I especially love seeing Felix's family, and other dogs I know and seeing how they are growing up.
Oh and photographs - I often come across photos on the internet of dogs which just take my breath away.
I can't see myself ever feeling this way about another breed :)

Now if I see one outside of a show/event... that's a rare occurance, but it does happen. Yes I get all excited and zoom over to them :D

Before I got my Newfie, I practically stalked people I saw out and about with their Newfs :D OH was mortified and kept reminding me that there are laws against that sort of thing :)  We got chatting to a woman on the beach once that mentioned that she often saw a lady walking 4 Newfs VERY early in the morning...well, that was it for me!! Dragged OH and dog to the beach at the skreak of dawn every weekend for months until we finally 'bumped' into her and by that time we were only a week from picking up our own pup :)

I still get stupidly excited when I see another Newf, even though I ususally have my own beside me at the time   You should see me at Newfoundland Club get togethers!! :D  I sometimes look at my girl when she's lying kipping beside me and still find it hard to believe that I have her, after all those years of longing for one.  And then there's the days when she's being a proper madam and I wonder what exactly all those years of longing were about anyway :D

That's not to say that I don't love my boy, believe me I do but I have to admit that I didn't spend the last 20 odd years thinking 'I can't wait to have a Chow X Rottweiler' :D :D
- By munkeemojo Date 18.10.06 19:27 UTC
if i see a lab i'm all "look look-its a lab. Aww isn't s/he gorgeous. Look look look look!!", and if they're close enough, i have to dash over and give them loads of fussing while talking to them in a stupid voice saying things like "who's a handsome boy", "who's got a lovely nosey-posey"
- By belgian bonkers Date 18.10.06 19:29 UTC
I'll never forget going to my first champ. show with my youngster.  I'd never seen so many Belgians in one place, it was amazing!!

Sarah.

Umm

I'm a crazy person, I've been known to stop the car and run over to total strangers who are walking along with a Bedlington  :D :D  and if we can't stop the car I'm really put out :(

First time I went to a Ch show and saw about 70 Bedlies all together I didn't know where to look first :D :D   I'm still a bit like that when we go to a show but I don't show myself up so much now, I manage to keep my excitement to myself :) :)

>I've been known to stop the car and run over to total strangers who are walking along with a Bedlington

This happened to me once.  Was walking along the road and a car drew up alongside.  A woman jumped out and rushed over to me saying 'I just had to come and see your dog....I absolutley adore Irish Water Spaniels'. She was most embarrassed when I pointed out that my IWS was actually a brown Newfie pup :D :D :D
- By cutewolf [gb] Date 18.10.06 21:07 UTC
I still get that excited and happy feeling when I look at the Toller lying at my feet :) I give him a big cuddle and appreciate how lucky I am to have such a wonderful dog that I love so much :)
- By Nikita [gb] Date 18.10.06 21:09 UTC
Yep, every time I see a dobe :) I find myself trying to think of any excuse to strike up a conversation with the owners too!  Luckily the one I saw today I recognised, me and mine have known him & his owner most of his life so there was much chatting and play :D

Edit: also getting the same way about malinois now, but it'll be a while before I get one. arg!
- By Lindsay Date 19.10.06 08:14 UTC
I'm exactly the same when I see a Belgian, esp. a Terv! Get all excited and feel almost on a high! :P
- By copper_girl [gb] Date 19.10.06 08:35 UTC
I actually stopped my car and ran out to see a border terrier puppy that was being walked - he was just sooooooooooooooo cute.  Every time I see a border I have to stop and talk talk talk to the owner (always nice people!) and the dogs are always so friendly and happy to get a pat on the head.  I go crazy at crufts as there are so many of them and I have to see them all.  Luckily I have my very own brilliant example of the breed :D

:rolleyes:I used to go ga-ga over any dog I saw. My husband used to get so embarrassed as if we were out in a social place where there were dogs, I'd always ask to have a stroke. Every dog I saw.  If there was a dog a distance away I'd comment on it. I sooooo wanted a dog and before I started looking into which breed would be best for us, I would have had absolutley anything at all.

After spending a about 2 years thinking about which breed we'd get it became clear that Corrie - a golden and my husbands family dog - was a fantastic ambassador for the breed. The loveliest temprement you've seen on a dog, utterly beautiful to look at, and a real puppy at heart. So we got Roxy - my unashamed pride and joy. If there's a picture in the paper of a golden my husband will save it or on an advert or anything he'll call me to look at it. If I see one in the street I have to go over, and talk to the owner.

If there's any dog in a film I always watch the dog - they can be better actors than the human ones- and for me they always steal the scene. Goldens definately make me go silly, more so than any other dog, but any dog can elicit silly whooping chatter and cooing from me.
- By roz [gb] Date 19.10.06 10:56 UTC
You can't beat the unofficial "Jack Russell Appreciation Society" for going silly over the breed! We can all spot one a mile off and simply have to witter on about them while our dogs and OH's tend to start yawning and shuffling their feet hoping that we'll shut up before this side of next week.

I've wanted a JRT since I was 13 and I'm much worse now I've got one!
;)
- By jamtots [gb] Date 19.10.06 12:46 UTC
I have to hold my hand up high & say I'm a boxer stalker   If I am in the car........I have to stop & go over just to say hello
- By kizzy68 [gb] Date 20.10.06 06:35 UTC
I am the same with GSD`s being the proud owner of 2.  Amazing really as when I was a child my mum was absolutely terrified of them and would cross to the other side of the road rather than pass one..this fear was passed on to me for a while when I was small but I always had a fascination for them.  I have a magnet on my fridge that says " German Shepherds are like cookies - you cant just have one!" I absolutely love them and like the rest of you always strike up a conversation with any one I see walking them
- By Beckyess [gb] Date 20.10.06 06:56 UTC
yep same here with my Poodles and Dachshunds, but they're not so popular so I don't get to see many.

- By Brainless [fi] Date 20.10.06 07:24 UTC
Just as crazy here.
- By ChinaBlue [gb] Date 20.10.06 12:04 UTC
Yep, me too, with GSD's - I can spot the outline from a mile away
- By shannon [gb] Date 20.10.06 12:22 UTC
Im exactly the same with goldens...I get that little twitch in my tummy and just HAVE to chat to the owner. I just love how other people are just as passionate about their breed, even though I adore all dogs, there is just something about goldens that just take my breath!
- By curly [gb] Date 20.10.06 14:50 UTC
We never see my breed anywhere we go,but if we do go to a local show people are convinced my boy is a Labradoodle,he doesnt even look like that cross hes a curly coated retriever
- By HuskyGal Date 20.10.06 15:36 UTC
dont even need to see them...just hearing them (and those of you who have had the (misfortune?? ;) ) to bench beside the Huskies will know what I mean!!!) .....Makes My heart SMILE :D woooooo-woooooooo-wooooooooo!!!
- By Jetstone Jewel [ca] Date 20.10.06 16:30 UTC
Us too, we go gaa gaa over ESS and Labs but also a breed we will never own, Bernese Mountain Dogs.

Don't you find you do it a bit with whatever vehicle you currently drive as well?  Gee. look, there's another JGC, that one's a 2002, boy they should get that rusty spot looked after, glad we got our colour not that one, wonder if they are as unhappy with the tires as we are?  :)
- By Brainless [fi] Date 20.10.06 16:41 UTC
Ooh you would be jelous as my hosts here have Bernes as well as Elkies and I was helping dry four four week old pups who needed a bath (rolled in their poo).
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 20.10.06 19:59 UTC
ooooohhhhhh don't, I don't need a puppy, I don't need a puppy!!! :D
- By roz [gb] Date 20.10.06 22:55 UTC
Oh no! Puppies! You've reminded me that I'll be seeing Nipper's little half brothers and sisters tomorrow. Five weeks old and absolutely adorable. But like you, Dakkobear I don't need a puppy, do I? ;)
- By munrogirl76 Date 21.10.06 22:39 UTC
Oooh yes, I love the way when you walk through the gsp benches at a show they all make the same noises as mine, and fcrs just have to wag their tails and bounce. And it's SO exciting when you see them suddenly and unexpectedly (obviously this doesn't occur at shows!). :D
- By RodB [gb] Date 23.10.06 10:09 UTC
Of course, lots of folks seem only to have a vague idea of what breeds look like !

My Kerry Blues have, over the years been called:

Short-legged Scotties
Poodle with funny haircut
Black West Highland Whites (!)
Big miniature Schnauzer.
Little Airedale

and so on.

My own fault for owning an rare-ish breed, I expect!
- By hairydog [gb] Date 24.10.06 20:05 UTC
when I see a golden my heart melts then a Lab I just want to love em....
- By munrogirl76 Date 24.10.06 21:51 UTC
My flat coat gets described by people as a "long coated labrador".
- By Cindyloos Mum [gb] Date 24.10.06 22:28 UTC
Someone told me my last cav was not a cav but a staff and I had been done I was also told he was a King charles terrier my own fault as I use to get him shaved:cool:
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 24.10.06 22:37 UTC
when we had our first bernese a good few years ago, we overheard a boy say "look at that huge collie dad, must be a cross" - my OH was utterly offended :D . When he was a (very big) pup he ran over to play with a little girl who was building a snowman, she ran screaming to her dad with the dog loping behind her still wanting to play. I was mortified and made my OH go over to apologise to them - the dad then said "don't worry, its my fault, I told her there were bears up here"!
- By LucyD [gb] Date 25.10.06 08:26 UTC
Oh, poor girl Dakkobear! :-D  I know what you mean Cindyloos, I have seen some very fat (not saying your Cav was!!) and clipped Cavaliers and it does make them look totally different!
- By Cindyloos Mum [gb] Date 25.10.06 11:11 UTC
No my cav wasn't fat but very big I saw a pair of fat cavs in the park the other day and went to chat to the owners she said she is out at work all day and her mother feeds them treats she is trying to get the wieght off as the vet doesn't fancy there chances of being here at christmas because of the heart problems this is the down side of seeing the breed you love as it made me cry poor little babies:mad:
- By LucyD [gb] Date 25.10.06 15:34 UTC
That's very true - just groomed a group of 3, two were just right for size, the third was rather tubby, and I just couldn't come up with a polite way of asking why one was fat and the others not!! A Cav that was big but not fat wouldn't usually remind me of a Staffy I must say!!
