Topic Dog Boards / General / Brown dobermanns coat

When milo was a pup I noticed a tiny lighter brown patch on his side, hardly noticeable really and only really showed up in a certain light. But over the past month or so, I've noticed the area of lighter colour has spread and there a patch on his other side too. I dont show him now so not really a problem but just wondered A) what caused it? and  B) Will it get worse?
His coat is in otherwise good condition, not dry or patchy. Thanks.
He's 18 months old now by the way.

Is he actually losing hair over these patches or have they just got lighter? I have a brown poodle and she has patches of darker hair appearing now for no apparent reason i.e. site of injury.

No the hair is all fine, no thinness - just lighter in colour!!! If he was a bitch I would maybe think hormonal??? He is neutered by the way. Would this have anything to do with it????

Not sure, I know neutering affects the texture of the coat so maybe could affect the colour too? My bitch is entire.

My Brown Dobe has lighter patches on both sides.  She is 3 years old and speyed.  I can't remember when they first appeared but they haven't got any larger for a long time.  I've seen quite a few with these patches.  I don't know what causes it.
