Does anybody have any recomendations of shampoo to use on my cavaliers that will help them to not get matts on there ears milo isn't to bad but Cindy loaths having her ears brushed or combed I still do it but wonder if there is anyway of making it less of an ordeal for her.

daily brushing is best ....she will get used to it and it keeps the knotts down

you could use some anti tangle grooming spray :)

She is very like me neither of us like are hair brushed by other people she even tries to chew the brush or comb once I have detangled them she goes and gets a drink and tangles them again:confused:

I find almond shampoo good for my Cavaliers, it's good for silky coats and gives them a nice shine. But I don't think there's a 'magic' shampoo to stop the ears tangling, you will just have to encourage her to get used to having them brushed. :-)

Hi,  my girl gets her ears brushed and combed through after her meals mainly, she is usually quite calm anyway after eating, so as she curls up for her cuddles i get the brush out. I also squeeze a couple more brushes in during the day, after walks especially. She now knows the " LETS BRUSH YA" phrase and she happily gets comfy on my knee.  She also gets a thorough brush session alternate days obviously if the weather is horrid and she needs more she gets it.

Ive done it this way from day two, (day one settling her in) and over the last 12 months slowly increased the time she is on the table.

As yours is a bit fussy i would try the treat method, every stroke of the brush she gets a tiny treat, she will catch on im sure, it will take time and maybe she will never accept it fully but you may see she relaxes a little more. Have you tried one of the combs with rotating teeth. They are alot more gentle i believe.

There are de-tangle sprays in pet shops that may help, ive not had any experience with these so i have no idea if they work or help sorry.

Good luck

edit to say mine is a cavvie too.   julie

Hi,

My Harvey also gets matted ears if not combed through daily - we never miss. We use loreal kids anti tangle shampoo and I always finish off with conditioner to the ears, leg feathers, bum feathers and tail, were loving herbal essence rainforest flowers smooth  conditioner at the moment, it leaves Harvey so shiney and completely tangle free.
