Rupert my year old Moggie isnt too good at the mo.  It started early last Wednesday morning when he started throwing up on my bed, seemed ok after that so I didnt think much of it.  Friday I found some dried up sick on my arm chair - dont know how long that had been there  Saturday he stayed asleep in my bed all day, only going out early evening for an hour or two.  And this morning he has been sick about 6 times all round the house (cream carpet, kitchen work tops, on my bed  ) He wont eat either, he I think he is dehydrated, I have a feeling he hasnt been eating properly for a few days because the biscuits havent been doing down much, I assumed it was my other cat not eating because she spends most of her time out hunting and eats mostly what she catches.  Today I tried him with some cooked white fish and some very watered down milk to make him drink but he is having none of it.  Obviously I will be taking him to the vet first thing tomorrow but was just wondering if anyone else had much experience of poorly cats? ive never had a cat with an upset tum so dont know how to deal with it.  Could he have caught what the dogs had last week? he really is under the weather poor soul :(

There can be all sorts of possible explanations. Some of the most obvious ones would include a hairball that has got stuck or a virus. The vet will probably prescribe antibiotics as a start. If he is dehydrated (have you tried pinching the skin at the neck to see if it falls down into place quickly?) he will need the vet ASAP as he may well need a drip. I'd expect serious diarrhoea for him to become dehydrated from just a stomach bg or similar though -dehydration would more likely point to something more serious such as kidney problems. Hopefully it's just a virus! Does he have diarrhoea? If ot the most likely scenario is a hairball or something else stuck. One of our Maine Coons get giant hairballs (and I do mean giant, we are talking the size of rats here LOL) and he can then be vomiting for days until they have all come up, but they do appear in the end.

Cats can catch corona virus from dogs which can have symptoms like these, but it's rather unusual for a cat to ever catch anything off a dog and vice versa. :)

I did the pinch the back of the neck thing and it stayed up, ive been syringing him water and he hasnt thrown it up yet.  I dont know if he has diarrhoea as he usually goes out to do it, ive kept him in today but he hasnt used his tray at all.  It wouldnt surprise me if he has caught something from the dogs as he is always sleeping with them and rubbing his face against theirs :(

Ive just got back from the vets, I got a rollicking for leaving it so long and now I feel ultra bad.  I just didnt realise he was that poorly, he just seemed to really go down hill today :(  anyway, he has a high temp.  vet has given him a injection of abs but reckons it is a viral thing.  He has given me some re-hydration stuff which ive got to syringe him every hour for the next 3, he is being so good about it bless him :(

Fingers crossed -and don't blame yourself, you didn't realise! Cats are VERY good at hiding things. If it's viral he should be fine!

he seems much better today, I gave him fluids through the night and he seems much perkier today.  Just got back from the vets and his temp has gone back to normal and he has fluids in his bladder which means he is rehydrating - and there is some squishy poo in there too so looks like he will have the runs before he is completely over it   He still wont eat though, ive given him some white fish but he isnt interested :(
