hi there everyone,

I am new to the message board...

I have a  bitch who is currently on day 63 of her pregnancy....she has been giving me all the signs for over a week. Temp drop to 97.4F over a week ago, shivering, panting, vomiting, off food..... but still no puppies. The only thing she has not done is really swell.....

I took her to the vet today (yest they are open on Sunday) to weigh her... and she has not put on ANY weight in over 2 weeks! I spoke to the nurse who said that if nothing happens over the next 24hrs to call back tomorrow and see the vet....

Can anyone let me know if they have had a similar problems or what the vet can do if nothing happens.... what other signs are there and have I missed anything??

sorry for rambling on....

Thanks in advance...

Marie-ann

Hi,

If you think she has pups then they really should x-ray her tomorrow and you will know exactly what is going on.  At this stage most vets prefer to x-ray rather than scan.  The temperature drop last week may be the drop that happens a few days before birth - I assume you are still takign it ?

Hi,

I have had confirmation of 3 puppies this was done at 35 days and again at a vet check at 45 days and all was confirmed fine good movement, heartbeats, and skeletons all very well developed.

Her temp this morning was 100.4F and has been stable at this for the last 3-4days.

In that case don't worry too much.  Easy to say and hard to do of course!

Thanks.....

I agree it is very difficult to do esspecially when you have had only had a couple of hours sleep over the week....LOL

Has anyone heard of a bitch being induced??

At what point should I start to panic???

Are the pups moving well now?

Also how many times was she mated?  She may just be a day or two not as far on as you think if more than one mating took place.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Hi there,

Yes the puppies are still moving very well....

She was mated twice and she is day 63 based on the second mating....

I will keep you updated.

Hi everyone,

Well, after a discussion with my vet and many ultrasounds... we noticed that the puppies heart rates were a little slower so elected for C-Section.

2 puppies, unfortunately the little girl died at less than 24hrs old.... the little boy however is doing amaizingly!!

Mum is doing very well only she is not interested in the pup... she will let me put him on the teat to feed but will not wee or poo him...

Is there anything that I  can do to encourage her maternal instinct? she is not agressive towards him and is in the crate with him and sleeps there too....

Ideas most welcome...

Sorry to hear that one of the pups didn't make it.

I am glad the other one is progressing well despite Mum not being very keen on motherhood. If she isn't helping the pup to wee and poo then you must do it using a piece of cottonwool.

I hope everything continues well from now on
