Are yorkshire terriers suitable for people with allergies, all replies welcome.

Reputedly so, but it depends what the people are actually allergic to: is it the hair, the saliva or the dander? Have they actually been properly tested for allergies by their GP?

The best way to find out if a breed is suitable is to visit a breeder's house and spend a couple of hours with the adult dogs in the home. Any immediate reaction will be apparent.

They may find this article, pointing out that there's no such thing as a hypo-allergenic breed, helpful.

Impossible to say.

Allergies are generally caused by dander rather than by the actual fur.  All dogs produce dander to some extent so the only way for someone to find out if they will react to a dog, is to spend time with the actual dog.

I have had an allergic reaction to some dogs (usually short-haired) but I can't say I react to all dogs of a certain breed as such.  A BC at the training club I attend always sets me off sneezing etc yet I grew up with BCs and never had a problem and I now live happily and symptom-free with two exceptionally hairy dogs :-)
