Topic Dog Boards / Health / poo like wet cement !

A few weeks ago Alf had the runs and was throwing up, it only lasted a couple of days but since then both boys have had really horrid poos, like wet cement, there is no solidness at all.  Ive had them both on chicken/fish and rice for a few days and they seemed ok, but now they are back on their normal food (autarky and amp meat) they are loose again.  I wonder if all of a sudden the autarky doesnt agree with them ? I was wondering whether to change their food but dont really want to as they were doing so well on the autarky.  Its not the actual batch of food because it started at the end of a bag and now we are on a new one.  Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do ?

Have you tried giving them some live yoghurt in case their guts are a bit poorly ?

yes they have live yogurt on their breakfast, they have also had pro-kaolin from the vets which is a pro-biotic.

That pro-kolin+ stuff is very good. We've often had it when our dogs have had tummy trouble as it assists the gut in recovering.

If any of ours get the runs I usually just feed chicken wings and that usually settles things. I then introduce things back slowly and keep an eye on them.

I had the same thing with Autarky, although it was about three months ago now. I changed my mob onto Burgess Supadog Sensitive. Within two days they began have small very firm poos and I'm going to continue with it long term. I'm really pleased with it, and it's a similar price to the Autarky.

I get my autarky from costco, its only £11  But no good if it doesnt agree with them, where do you buy superdog ? I think ive seen it in scats.

That's a good price for Autarky, I was paying about £14, but Burgess Supadog Sensitive is £17. I get mine from my local Farmway, but I have got it at Pets at Home before. It's a Lamb & Rice recipe.

I might buy a small bag and see what happens

if my dog is a bit loose with no obvious cause I often give her chicken wings as the bones seem to firm it up again.

I usually do too, today they both seem fine though so maybe they are over it - fingers crossed ;)
