Well it was and it wasn't :) Some interesting talk about the uniqueness of canine diversity but Jeremy Clarkson's pride in achieving the status of owning Labradoodle was a particularly low point I thought :rolleyes:
thought the entimology puzzle, that no-one knows where the word 'dog' orgionated from was interesting though! (I dont think Stephen Fry allowed for the research force that is JG, though ;) bet she knows..or can find out!)

LOL - thought that everyone knew that the Canary Islands wasn't to do with birds :D :D :D
I'm afraid I can do no better than Stephen Fry - the earliest I can find is the Old English (aka Anglo-Saxon) 'docga' (pl: docgan) meaning dog or hound.
I just assumed it came from the French word dogue but didn't go looking. My favourite etymology site has your information JG. Interesting they don't know where it came from.
