Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Better out than in?

Took dogs for annual check-ups/boosters last night.  After Zak's recent behaviour at dog show OH elects to stay in car (translation:I'm not having that bl**dy dog show me up again.')while I take them in one at a time.

Apart from a brief tap dance on the scale and behaving like a greased eel on the examining table Miss Thing was her usual stoical self even in the face of a hysterical Rottie wearing a lampshade; now it's Zak's turn. Remembering last year (three act opera complete with high-pitched aria) and dog show performance, I am braced.

However, although panting and anxious, he walks rather than skids up to the scale and sits nicely on request.  Vet is Small Woman rather than Big Man (unlike last year) and Zak is tolerant of examination and jab to the point of getting a couple of ingratiating licks in during the process.  I am astounded.  Heap praise and attention and stride proudly out into waiting room to pay.

Just as I reach for the plastic there is a sound like a welly boot being pulled out of a bog and there it is; a big pile of Jackson Pollock all over the waiting room floor.  I cringe apologetically at the nurse (whose expression makes it all too clear the miasma has spread to her side of the desk) and we then spend a strained five minutes trying to make small talk while I get Zak's backside outside and she wonders why she did all that training.

We get home where Zak then proceeds to pee all over the hall runner, something he hasn't done since the second day we got him nearly three years ago.

So there it is; he can hold himself together but at a cost.

I know one thing: I'll never get that third dog now.

Sorry, I shouldn't laugh....but I am doing!!! :D :D To the point where I just narrowly avoided destroying a work PC with a mouthful of sprayed coke with a timely diversion to the waste paper basket

Poor Zak! Give him a hug and thank him for giving me the best laugh I've had this week :D

Good for Zak I say! I mean they poke you with needles and jab around your privates, how else should he repay their attentions. :-D I'm sure it's not the first mess they've seen and won't be the last. Great story though - laughed mee head off.
