Topic Dog Boards / General / Good Kennels..or don't love us?

:eek:We went on holiday last week and so had to put our loved and spoiled Dobe girl into Kennels:eek:

Mummy and Daddy visited, called and vetted loads of them and then, only when we found out that the local pet sitter was unavailable, we made a choice on a kennel that a friend uses.
I came home on the day that our girl was taken into care by Daddy, to find him in bits and talking about cancelling the trip, so he could rescue her from the prison he'd left her in! I was to blame of course as I'm a cold hearted B***h!
One week later, he raced to the kennel after 4 hours sleep and with a bursting heart retreaved his girl,
who......was absolutley glowing, healthy and happy!

"Oh", said the kennel owner, "I'm sure she has enjoyed herself. She's been a real joy to have in."
The treachery!!!!!

IME the vast majority of dogs are absolutely fine in kennels. While I was at school and college I worked in two seperate kennels at weekends and holidays and can count on one hand the dogs that didn't eat and caused major problems versus the 100s of dogs that were fine :)  I was worried leaving my lot for the first time, one borzoi boy has major temprement issues and generally wont let anyone but me do anything for him, isn't a great eater and hates other dogs with a passion. His brother is a bit woosy and both collies are typical collies - prone to imagining things! All 4 were absolutely fine, put weight on and now run into the kennels off lead  You never know if you should be happy for them or upset that they don't miss you :D

Copper loves the kennels - when we take him he just about pulls me off my feet trying to get to the guy that looks after him.  So much for me worrying about him that he'll be missing me and lonely

I do always use the same kennels and it's the same staff but I know the dog is quite happy to stay there.  And also when we get him back there is no settling in back home period, he's exactly the same as when he goes in.

Same with us.  Darn dogs and cats come out of the kennel as if they've had a nice holiday.  Good for them but it sure makes us feel as if we weren't really missed.  It's our once feral cat, left at home with a pet sitter, who suffers the most.  She is terrified of anyone but us.  My friend the cat-sitter has never even seen her as the cat hides the whole time my friend is visiting.  When we finally get home the cat is desperate for attention and the longer we are away the worse she is.  Poor little girl.

Same here :) We go to the same place for agility every week and Tara always pulls towards the kennels entrance :)

Nips goes to stay with his breeder who is a friend anyway and only lives in the next village. Apparently he does a remarkably good impression of a dog who is pining away for the first day or so and thus gets all sorts of treats forbidden to his brother and sister. Like time upstairs on his own special blanket and he makes the most of it!!!  He's always absolutely fine although the ecstatic welcome I get when I come home is very rewarding. Of course I do miss him and I get a bit broody if I see any Jack Russells but I'm afraid I'm cold hearted enough to make the most of my holiday and not spend it wallowing in misery because I'm away from him.

consol yourself in the fact that most kennel owners say that as you wouldnt take them back there if they said they hated it!!!
