hello, my partner took our dog for her walk this morning, and now she is coverd in small lumps all round her nose, eyes, and neck and back, could they be nettle stings as my other half thinks she went near a nettle bush when he let her of the lead, if they are is there anything i can put on them as they look sore in places.
thanks
jay
Oh, poor thing, I hope she isn't too distressed? Piriton (or a similar antihistamine) is good for reducing allergic reactions to stings or bites.

no she dosnt seem to distressed at the moment, she was biting herself earlier and her vagina seems a little sore, i dont have any piriton is there anything else anyone can suggest, i know when i was a kid you use to rub a nettle sting with a dock leave
You should be able to find dock leaves near the nettles where she was stung. If she has been stung quite a bit it might not help too much and she may be better with an antihistamine. My boy did the same thing today (and gets stungs frequently:rolleyes:) as he insists on walking through the nettles stinging his pads. Doesnt seem to worry him too much, he just adopts a very funny walk for a few minutes until he gets used to the sensation. You will probably find that the spots will be less red by the morning and if they seem better, she may not need any help at all.
Hope shes ok :)

thanks for your reply she seems to have been stung badly if that what it actually is, all round her eyes are red and swollen she is a staffy so she as a very thin coat of hair she as been stung in the past but not like this as there just seem to be lumps all over her coat, i will keep my eye on her and will take her to the vets in the morning if no better
Poor girl sounds nasty, I have not heard of such a bad case of stinging, her coat must be very thin, to be around her eyes too and her vulva, did she go swimming in them? They could possibly be some sort of insect bites either. A vet visit may be needed if they have not got better by morning. Give her a big cuddle poor girl.

i dont know if she went swimming in them as it was my other half that took her for the walk, im really worried about her at the moment she is on the sofa sleeping, her body just seems to to be full of small lumps i just dont know what to do
Has she appeared to be trembling or weak at all? A really bad case of stings can cause a disturbance in heartrate, how do you feel that she is? Is she sleeping as she normally does, or do you feel she is feeling weak?
If it is just the appearance, and she has been quite normal otherwise, eating, drinking etc as usual, wait to see your vet in the morning, I would go just to check her eyes if nothing else.
But if you feel she is not herself, because this is a really bad case of stinging call your emergency vet now for advice.

Dogs can get allergic reactions like 'hives' in humans to nettles & other plants, if you're worried best call your vet.
Hi Jay
How's your girl this morning - all better I hope?
Your message has reminded me that I'm running out of my stock of Piriton and need to buy some more, just in case.

hi,
thanks for your replys i took bella to the vets today and they think its an allergic reaction to nettle stings or she mite of been bitten by an insect, anyway the vet gave her an injection and some tablets the swelling around her eyes and mouth had gone down this morning but she still looked sore on her back and i thought it best to take her to be checked out, i going to stock up on piriton just in case it happens again
Glad that she seems to be on the mend.
As a cautionary note, my friend's male RR, who is a sensitive soul, went in anaphalactic (not too sure about that spelling!) shock after running through lots of stingers. She now carries Piriton whenever she's out.
Hi Jayj
So pleased she is getting better. I have a Staffie too - must be something about Staffies and Stingers:rolleyes: Mine walks through the same patch of them every morning. I think he secretly likes the sensation :D
Hi Jayj
Hows she doing now?
